It really depends on what you are growing. This is a zone 5b garden. The front half of the garden gets about 8 hours of full sun. The back half

If squirrels are a problem we can completely enclose the garden system.
That is a 16 x 16 fully enclosed garden system. It stands approx 7 1/2 feet tall. We used vinyl coated 2 in x 4 in fencing overlaid with 1/2 in x 1/2 in vinyl coated hardware cloth.

Vegetable garden with deer fencing for protection
What about the gate opening? There's no additional fencing. Can't the deer enter the garden there?
Herb & vegetable Garden design idea
If privacy fencing is not desirable (for instance, you want to be able to see and enjoy your own garden), you can make a regular garden fence taller by attaching netting to taller poles, in effect making a taller (but nearly invisible) fence. Another option is to make your fence significantly wider by
Keep Deer OutSome deer can jump nearly 8 feet high, making it quite difficult to keep them out of garden beds using normal fencing. A solid privacy fence is ideal because it blocks the deer’s view of your tasty plants — it’s not likely deer will jump into an area if they can’t be sure it is safe. If

entire scene reads as harmonious and balanced, and I think it is because the patio's generous scale feels like a theatrical stage, with the trees as star performers.
Two beautiful, multitrunked shade trees gain prominence in this garden, thanks to the way the bluestone patio has been situated to emphasize their inherent elegance. Patios almost always read as the positive, more dominant form in a landscape, but here, the patio is a backdrop to the trees. The entire
