Raised Bed Vegetable Garden
Once a forgotten, moldy putting green —now a healthy vegetable garden. Raised beds were built and filled with organic soil and leaf mold. I hope you'll all forgive a small, uninvited tip: native soil is great IF its great. Horse manure can be full of weed seeds and very "hot" (look it up). Some places don't freeze hard enough to heave the ground (obviously not an issue in Chi-town). Homemade compost is often full of seeds, too. I wouldn't

Sometimes, you don't want a trellis in the back, you want it in the front, to provide a cooler microclimate to shade cool-season vegetables. An in-bed trellis gives

Even in 10-year-old beds, when I deep-dig and expose the bottom timbers, there's very little, if any, fungal
Of course I'm concerned about ecology, I've been an organic gardener for 30 years. And as I said, I rely on client's contractors to build the beds and make them structurally sound.
