What are the two large trees in the photo called?
What plants did they get to grow under the tree?
Trees are natorious for being a dead dirt area, I'm welcome to any ideas.
org/WISe/WISePlantProfiles/WaxMyrtle.aspx. Wax Myrtle, imo, is a much better landscape choice for the yard than Ficus. Birds and squirrels are very fond of the attractive berries and the leaves are aromatic.
Some trees indeed are allelopathic, meaning they produce a chemical that inhibits growth
I believe that the dark green "hairy" looking plants under the closer tree are mondograss or "monkey" grass.
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure these are Wax Myrtle trees (Myrica cerifera). Note the twisted trunks with smooth grey bark. Look carefully at the leaves at the top center. Then check

I've always wondered about this aspect of nailing into a living tree.
The pro using spec heavy dutty bolts and tree house is sitting on those with distance from tree it self. It is better to build on slow grow trees too. Cedar or pepper tree. This is really pretty tree house !

I really want a tree house in my backyard but its a single tree and the branches don't start until the trunk is about 20 feet high. I would wonder if thats okay to build a tree house on. And the ladder would have to be really high. And if it is would
