Photos by Carole Meyer....This very small kitchen has grown over the years. We have added custom made pieces of furniture to expand the counter space and storage space. Our newest idea was to add a long shelf below the very high cabinets. Design by Carole Meyer

I also liked the idea of adding pottery and some faux cactus to the composition. The colors work with the painting and the cactus has a very Southwest feel.

I tried a couple of different ideas. One with the basket ....which could have some flowers or greenery in it if you put a plastic bag inside. (be sure it is strong with no holes!) The other thing that worked was this hand carved violin which is secured with Quake Proof.

As an artist, photographer and lover of design, one of the fun things I like to do is work with my art to design a vignette in front of the piece that enhances and in some case gives dimension to the painting. I have shown a couple of ideas for a painting I just finished that has a very ethnic vibe.

Subject matter counts when selecting art for a room. This piece has a very Southwest look, but could work well in a very modern room as well. Morning in Taxco 30x40 MM on canvas by Carole Meyer
