Framing a large piece of art is always expensive, but it did not seem to be large enough without a frame. Being here in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where you can have almost anything made by hand, I decided to check out the local carpenter and have him make me a frame. I also liked the idea of adding pottery and some faux cactus to the composition. The colors work with the painting and the cactus has a very Southwest feel.

I tried a couple of different ideas. One with the basket ....which could have some flowers or greenery in it if you put a plastic bag inside. (be sure it is strong with no holes!) The other thing that worked was this hand carved violin which is secured with Quake Proof.
As an artist, photographer and lover of design, one of the fun things I like to do is work with my art to design a vignette in front of the piece that enhances and in some case gives dimension to the painting. I have shown a couple of ideas for a painting I just finished that has a very ethnic vibe.
Subject matter counts when selecting art for a room. This piece has a very Southwest look, but could work well in a very modern room as well.
