Another major aspect of the project was structural. The support structure throughout the home was enhanced to allow unattractive posts in the kitchen to be removed. A much more substantial and handsome staircase was built leading up to the second floor, with modern cable railings and Brazilian cherry wood flooring.

A frost glass divider separates the eating area from the foyer leading to an indoor pool. The faceted ceiling incorporates soaring angles, skylights and modern fixtures, further illuminating the space. A Brazilian cherry floor creates another boundary between the kitchen and eating area.

The old kitchen did not have much of a work flow. By taking over the space of the old laundry area, a closet and bathroom, the new contemporary kitchen has a greatly improved layout. Overall the space is much more open and light-filled. As the clients work in the professional video game industry, they wanted a theater room where they could review their work on a large screen. This was incorporated into the design and a brand new state-of-the-art theater was built on the second floor, near the master suite.

To add further coherence to the house, a ceiling treatment creates the illusion of depth with a plaster step around the perimeter of the dining room, similar to the new kitchen and foyer. Built in cabinetry has display shelving that is backlit with state-of-the-art LED lighting and contributes to the contemporary style.
