Prime growing season: June through September When to plant: Sow seeds or set out plants in spring and summer when the soil is warm, at least one week after the last frost date.
reasons to grow basil in your garden: Basil is very easy to grow from seed or seedlings once the danger of frost has passed. You can also grow it in containers. It's hard to beat the fresh taste of basil in a favorite Italian dish.

window goes all the way to counter, cabinet pulls
In California many people have these, but my favorite thing is when they put glass shelves up with lots of plants on them.

deep space behind sink would allow herbs in pots
like top of bay window to be glass rather than solid. Can look up and out of glass ceiling of screen porch.
Push the sink window out a bit to gain some additional counter space behind the sink? And small plants?
When a ceiling of glass isn’t feasible, a large greenhouse-style window is the next best thing. A setup like this is a great option if you want to grow plants that require an ample amount of sunlight or just want to feel closer to nature than a typical window would allow.

In this rustic setting, long trays mounted on the wall are home to an assortment of herbs. It's not a look that will work in every home, but where it fits in, it's unexpected but effective. When growing herbs indoors, make sure you provide plenty of light. Most herbs
