The type of wood used does vary. We at WineRacks.com use pine, mahogany, oak and lyptus. We highly recommend mahogany for wood wine racks as it is decay and moisture resistant. Cape Cod' project. The racks are made of Mahogany. A 'Chappo' stain and clear lacquer finish were applied to wood, to bring out its natural grain. The wood's tone was also improved, lending an elegant, yet rustic air to the wine storage space. Mahogany is one of the best materials out there, especially
