have used a synthetic trex like product for the restraint. Rain water leaders drop water onto tiles ( we had extra) of the same stone used in the foreground
over the river rock and edge to send the water to the grass -- the site was also lighty re-graded to direct water away from the house towards small swales
including this photo -- the tiles were removed if it was clear that the water flowed well enough away from the foundation without them. - Cathy
