These are Arizona Flagstone cut to shape pavers and the plant material is Dymondia.
Judging from the plants growing between the pavers, as well as this designer's natural style, I would say these are natural stone pavers. :)

works to augment the arch. of the house - many designers fail this test of their skill well done ! My guess would be they used sand on the pool planting to the right and therefore have a gunite finish on pool ( low maintenance) with sand bottom over this low maintenance finish but I am no expert on
a cartridge filter. There is a UV sanitizer in conjunction an ozone feeder. You are correct, the right side of the pool is a generation area for plants to digest nitrogen etc.. in the water.
