What plants are in this container garden?
What's the name of the climbing plant?
It is Bluestone. The stone is mortared onto a concrete foundation which contains heating cables to keep the steps and landing free of snow and ice during the winter.

reed like plant along the concrete wall?
How is the horsetail contained and watered in this design? It looks fabulous in such a small area.
what is the plant along the wall on the right
we would like to know the name of the plant on the right
The botanical name is 'Equisetum hyemale' Unless it is planted in a container DO NOT USE IT. It has very aggressive roots that will go 30 to 40 feet and is very invasive. A very contemporary look but HIGH MAINTENANCE if not in a container.
Horsetail. It needs to be contained as it spreads.

I like the mixture of color and texture of the plants
Orange can dominate in mixed plantings, but here, in a border with mixed colors, it has been used to add that something extra.Cleverly the designer has linked the orange throughout the design — from the leaves of the Crocosmia to the flowers of the Canna and even the parasol. The eye is led smoothly
I lived in Ohio and it bloomed in 3 years. I would estimate the above growth to be spring of the plant's second season if it was planted from a pot.

lanterns and hanging plants from their rafters.
wisteria leaves soften a pergola, blurring the lines between hardscape and garden. Start from grafted plants vs. seedlings for quicker blooms. Wisteria is best suited to USDA climate zones 5-8. Train new plants by choosing one or a few stems to form a leader and clip off unwanted starts that sprout from the

Regarding large pottery containers for the garden.
and I feared that my 2 containers, which are made from fiberglass and cast stone could possibly be blown over. I used two round containers, approximately 14/16 inches diameter, made my flower arrangement and inserted one in each pot. With the lava rock on the bottom and the plants on the top I feel confident
Yes. This container is only about 30" tall and about 18" opening at the top.
I'm sorry, the clients chose the paint color on the house. it is a dark chocolate grey and the plants look great with the house color backdrop.

What kinds of plants surround the walkway? Will they "work" in Northern California?
this project is located) the location of where to plant Irish Moss should be considered carefully. In S. Cal, pick a semi shady area, ensure good drainage, plant as tight as desired (it's not a fairly fast spreader), and mix with yournchoice of plants along the edges..
(sorry, accidentally pressed 'submit'.... Re: Irish Moss' To be successful, plant in a fairly cool / shady environment and make sure the soil is loose & well draining. In addition, make sure your irrigation is zoned specifically for the area's needs. Hope this helps, Drew Sivgals AMS Landscape Design
