The problem you will run into with a black quartz is that it will have a polished finish versus a matte finish like Soapstone. It will have the look of polished black granite. Is that something that interests you? Otherwise there is a granite we have been using called

The limestone is polished and has a subtle patterns to it. More subtle than granite. Limestones tend to be less costly than granites, but both stones have a substantial material cost range. If you are considering limestone counters, please do your homework, they are softer and more pourous than limestones
