Spring Lake- Porch

Is that wood on the porch and steps? If so, what kind and finish? How much maintenance does it require?
What are the trees flanking the sides of the porch? Are they blooming?

I cant tell from this angle whether the dormers are symmetrically spaced, and how they look in relation to the porch dormer which is obviously not centred on the front

around farm porch. The landscaper wants to put the grass up to the step. I want some sort of 'area' (just a few inches) to be either mulch or pebble. I am concerned that weed wacking the grass will mar the step.
