John Lum Architecture is an 10-person firm located in a converted laundry machine factory in the Mission District of San Francisco. Established in 1994, we have successfully completed over 500 architectural projects, ranging from high-end commercial interiors and retail environments, to new residential construction and remodels. The firm is a multi-faceted practice with project size and type varying, depending on the client. In addition to architectural work, we offer services in furniture, lighting, color and interior design.
John Lum Architecture is best known for its high-end retail and restaurant interiors, although our residential portfolio has captured a lot of recent attention due to its cutting-edge green design. While still maintaining a practice based on smaller projects and addition/ remodels to existing residences, the firm has grown in capacity and experience to be able to design larger, multi-unit projects and highly detailed, custom homes.
We are proud to have won numerous awards for our projects, including the ground-breaking restaurants Asia SF, Hayes and Vine Wine Bar, and the Urban Eyes Optometry office.
Without compromising aesthetics, John Lum Architecture is strongly committed to green development in the Bay Area. Our efforts to promote environmentally-sustain-able practices and green building methods were highlighted in 2007 at the Sunset Magazine Idea Home located in the Mission District of San Francisco. Other projects recently completed include the first residence in San Francisco to have a permitted rain water/ gray water usage system, making it one the highest Green Point rated homes in California.
