John Lum Architecture, Inc. AIA

Business Description
John Lum Architecture is an 10-person firm located in a converted laundry machine factory in the Mission District of San Francisco. Established in 1994, we have successfully completed over 500 architectural projects, ranging from high-end commercial interiors and retail environments, to new residential construction and remodels. The firm is a multi-faceted practice with project size and type varying, depending on the client. In addition to architectural work, we offer services in furniture, lighting, color and interior design.

John Lum Architecture is best known for its high-end retail and restaurant interiors, although our residential portfolio has captured a lot of recent attention due to its cutting-edge green design. While still maintaining a practice based on smaller projects and addition/ remodels to existing residences, the firm has grown in capacity and experience to be able to design larger, multi-unit projects and highly detailed, custom homes.

We are proud to have won numerous awards for our projects, including the ground-breaking restaurants Asia SF, Hayes and Vine Wine Bar, and the Urban Eyes Optometry office.

Without compromising aesthetics, John Lum Architecture is strongly committed to green development in the Bay Area. Our efforts to promote environmentally-sustain-able practices and green building methods were highlighted in 2007 at the Sunset Magazine Idea Home located in the Mission District of San Francisco. Other projects recently completed include the first residence in San Francisco to have a permitted rain water/ gray water usage system, making it one the highest Green Point rated homes in California.

This type of tub is generally installed with 2x framing supporting it, and acting as the back of the tiled apron surface. This type of tub has plenty of room beneath for any type of tile front. You can find installation guidelines from the installation manual from the manuf. which should help you understand this.

Love a lot of them - especially the design with the desk, and the imaginative creation of a "faux bay" in the flat wall - I would guess you could use the built out wall sections for storage, and have the nice little nook

I can't answer questions about specific waterproofing, as each situation is unique. I can tell you a wet room such as this shares waterproofing with the walls, shower floor, and the skirt of the tub. Correct waterproofing is critical for longevity and functionality of wet areas. I would suggest having a professional provide details for your situation.

We do fiberglass for the shower pan upand g up the wall several inches so that no matter what it won't leak. Smells really bad for a few days though. Then the rest of the backing is as per usual. Shower pans and techniques form Home Depot just are not reliable in the long run.

Susan - Unfortunately we are not able to answer every color question that is placed. As always with color, monitors can make things look very different than they would in your space. We always suggest that you get a color deck from Benjamin Moore and see similar colors in your environment.

Susan - check out Whale Gray with Sherwin Williams, also the Colonade Gray selection compliments the darker Whale Gray nicely

Thank you Scott. These are Zinc-GSM (Galv. sheet metal) which were trimmed to size, and installed similarly to a cedar shake. This metal is readily available, and can be cut by almost any metal shop. Appropriate water proofing materials should be installed prior to metal installation.
