I use Sherwin Williams. Anytime you have a specific problem you need advice on I find its better to go to a store that "only" sells paint. It only makes sense that is where you will get the best advice along with the right product for the job.

If I am understanding, the dark lines show what will be the new powder room and closet. If possible I'd put the door into the powder room in the center the toilet against the outside wall and the sink on the opposite end. Personally I wouldn't worry about the closet being small. Most people end up having them so full that when guests come they take coats to a bedroom anyway. Since it is important to you to have a nice entry(and I agree) you are smart to keep the space open directly in front of the door. Put a nice chest of drawers or console table, two lamps and a big mirror or oil painting to give a beautiful formal air to your entry. Good Luck, Bill

By all means use a craftsman style table or chest. Don't overlook the possibility of a skirted table. Done properly they look very formal give you a chance to add color, absorb noise and look softer and more inviting. I especially like them because I can make them any size or shape I like. ganttsdecorating.com will show many pictures of rooms with them. I use them a lot. With only 2'3: in width, i'd make the table fit the space exactly. If you are uncomfortable with the cloth top you can have a glass cut or even a mirror which would create more light via reflection. Good luck. Bill

It appears there will be only one entry into the kitchen from the living/dining area? I can't tell where the windows are in your stair area, but I think your plan is going to close off and darken the space quite a bit. And losing that extra entry into the kitchen from the front entry seems a bit awkward for the flow of the space. I get that you want a larger kitchen, but I would be hesitant to do what your plan lays out. Can you add skylights or additional windows in the stair area/front entry? Maybe photos of your current space may help generate some more ideas or give a better picture of your plan.

If the dining room is formal, paint(Not necessarily white) if casual ash or paint.

Since the areas are in the same room and your eye carries over from one space to the other, keep the same finish on the window as you did in the kitchen.

I thought what you were showing was the breakfast area. If that is the dining "area" which is much different than "room" then the wood should match. It is important to be clear in your terms.

Gray is a fad. Unless it has a green cast it does not look good with many colors and is not therefore a good neutral, will definitely be dated in a few years. I believe pink and gray were big colors in the 50's that people grew tired of.

Gray and red, or orange, or yellow, or green,,,,great choice for a great base with which to work. Very flexible and, IMO, very smart on your part to keep your palette simple, clean and classy. You can do a lot with it.

i would take off the chair rail and paint it all one color. it will show off the height of the room and make it feel more spacious. add some color back in with art lamps and pillows.

Roman shades with heavy flannel inner lining are great to save on heat loss or gain. Check out ganttsdecorating, blog-how to make a gantt roman shade. Also because it is fabric it is a great way to add some color. Bill

A soft honeycomb shade stacks into a 1-2" space and disappears when it's up. The honeycomb feature holds in the hot and cold with about a 3.4 R value and the blackout has a higher R value. With all the dark woods, I like the softness of honeycomb shades.

You will consider me very rude, but if you can't even tidy up before you take a picture thousands of people may see. What's the point of giving advise for a room that will always be a mess anyway.

Take everything out of there but the bed and paint the walls white. You need a fresh palate.

Your kitchen is great. Get the stuff off the top of the cabinets and brighten the lighting.

I admit to not having a problem with the stuff on top of the cabinets - says who you are.
Definitely more lighting, perhaps light fixtures, spots, and eliminate fluorescent.
New backsplash would add a lot, especially if it picked up the colors in the granite, paint, whatever accents you use (pillows, chair seats?), and any furniture, you may have in the room.

I would start by finding a cheerful wall paper for the table area. A bolder paper there will visually help pull that area forward. If you keep the cabinets as they are try to be sure the cabinet color is represented ion the wallpaper. Colors like Sherwin Williams Ryegrass or if you want bright Tansy Green will compliment the wood cabinets. A color like baguette will blend well with the cabinets. Of course the wall color can be modified to go better with the wallpaper after it is chosen. The right wall color and wallpaper will do more to improve your kitchen than stainless steel appliances or counter tops. Good Luck Bill
