Vivienne, thank you! I wanted to go with red, like most neighbours, but DH argued that it would look old fashioned. I resisted grey, like some other neighbours, not wanting to buy in to a passing trend. Apparently Victorians loved purple; purple is on the list of colours approved by the Council for our area and has always been my favourite - so purple it is!

I live on a busy-ish road in west London, and have noticed since moving in in January that the rather strangely coloured front door that I inherited (the house has been converted into two flats and I have the upper 2 floors, approximately 2000 sq ft) gets very dirty very easily. Definitely needs some TLC, but I think the TLC will have to be in the form of a darker colour to help mask the exhaust soot that starts to settle!
