@silvermix81 - You do have a nice balance between an open and closed kitchen. Thank you for sharing the photos. We appreciate seeing different designs and styles and hearing differing opinions.

We do not do a lot of furniture in our designs, but your photo of the living room looks to be a nice size. Curious, Is there enough room to move the chair and loveseat closer to the center of the room for a more intimate conversation area and have at least 36" as a walk path along your kitchen wall and pass-thru? That way people wouldn't need to walk through a conversation in the living room to get to the kitchen.
It's just a thought...

thank you! yes we love it! just built this summer. yes there is enough room to do that. we really haven't played around with it a lot yet but atm we like it to be kinda open bc my kids run up and down the whole area and make circles through the living areas. we have added some more art from the time these were taken but it still pretty much looks like this. here is some more pics :)

and I'm not one to prefer the tv there, but we designed it that way so that the tv and all the electronics could be up and out of the way from my babies. we did the corner fireplace bc my husband has lots of stuff that needed a large area behind the tv. I have a real fear of the kids pulling a tv down ontop of them so now I don't have to worry of it here.

Fine Thing: A Wine Fridge Right Where You Want It

A while back my daughter lived in a studio apartment that was always too warm even with running a/c 24/7 year round. She could not keep a bottle of wine unless it was in the fridge. Since it was a studio, space was at a premium. Then we found this cute little wine fridge at home depot - only holds 6 bottles but that's enough for one person to keep on hand, can be set to a particular temperature. That's when I discovered that I like white wine - when its at the right temperature which is slightly warmer than I keep my fridge. We built the wine fridge into a bench at the end of her kitchen counter - looks great, functions great and it cost .... wait for this ..... $40.!

Aloha and thank you for asking,
Yes, we always waterproof our window installations, especially in a shower. This window is vinyl which seems to have less maintenance. The hardware is stainless steel.

Looks like you followed the rules, but missed this one: it must reflect something beautiful or interesting. Looks like the opposite wall is the item you want to double via reflection. Have you considered framing the mirror with wide trim (can get at the hardware store) and using is as a floor mirror standing there in the corner just to the right of the sectional? Might have other ideas if you post pix of all the space.

Thank you for asking about the layout of this shower. The photo below may show better the actual location of the handshower on the shower bar.
It would be easy to place the hand shower towards the top of the bar and point it away from the bench area. There is a grab bar below the shower bar for this very reason.
In the same regard the handshower may be placed lower on the bar and pointed toward the bench area.
Depending on the size of a double shower a bench could be created the width of the shower:

@gioamorim - The island is not a bad idea and yes we recommend 42" path clearance but the bigger concern is that there are a lot of "random" cabinets in your layout. Our recommendation is to work with a kitchen designer to help with your overall layout and continuity.
IMHO the $3,000-$5,000 investment will be well worth it when you see how much better this space may be utilized. Bring your plan (it is important) to discuss your wants and needs so that they are incorporated into your final design.

Thank you for asking. It is 65"W x 11' at the vanity side and 67"W x 7' at the shower valve side. That is why the door was set at an angle, which also matches the angle in the hall.

@Fred Einerman - For design ideas and styles take a look at Kohler and Cardinal.
Glass: select 3/8" thickness, 1/2" if you can budget for it
Hardware: top hung will always be easier to use and keep clean, not to mention a smoother operation
Finish: select the finish the matches the rest of your bath; chrome, nickel, bronze, etc
Size: unless your opening width is a standard 60" or 72" look into a custom enclosure (Cardinal does custom sizes), also consider the overall height to allow 6-8" of airflow between the top and the ceiling

Aloha and thank you for asking. This shower bench is 17.5" from the finished floor of the shower.
Most shower seats will be 17"-19" from the finished floor. However, we recommend measuring from the back of knee to the bottom of the user's foot to find the appropriate measurement for the client.
No two showers are alike, at least not from our firm. Also, remodeling requires taking into account the existing conditions.

I'm a stickler for detail and am having my house painted blue right now as in scaffolding up and primer on. The first coat is going on and it looks thin. Will a second coat be enough? Also, how hard should I ride the painters about mistakes? I had them correct some caulking so there would be absolutely no holes in it. I'm at the beach and missed caulk means water damage. As far as the paint goes, I want it perfect as in no drips, smears, or blue on the white trim. Am I being too picky?

@daisypickle - You are not being too picky. We also work on homes at the beach and complete caulking and sealing of wood is extremely important. Drips are NEVER acceptable, neither is cross-contamination of your color scheme.
Your deep color will definitely require two coats, but a third coat would be optimal. IMO your painter should have included three coats in his bid once they saw your deep color.
We are in the process of finalizing a color consultation for the exterior of an oceanfront condominium. We selected one deep color as you did. The painting bids will need to be revised to account for this designer's inclusion of such a deep color.
Great color by the way...We will look forward to your finished photos!

Aloha Neil and thank you for your inquiry. We have installed a number of the Kohler HydroRail in our bath projects and not once have we heard of any concern over water pressure. We usually use an 8-10" rain shower head. We have used both the Kohler Flipside and Shift Ellipse hand showers.
There is definitely only one direction of water flow at a time. The diverter is located at the bottom of the HydroRail. The water inlet is at the top wall connection. The bottom wall connection is merely to secure it to the wall. We always position the shower valve at the shower entry so that our clients do not get a spray of cold water when turning it on.
We were the first to order and install the HydroRail in Hawaii after seeing it introduced at KBIS in 2012 and we continue to spec it today.
