Hello Natasha Pearcy
Since the you are okay with changing the navy, you should change the color to a lilac purple or a dark purple to pull the gray in. Also adding curtains of the same color.

Add a 3ft border of navy fabric with hem tape to your drapes. That will pop! Gray walls.

Beautiful "look" but it looks like "painted" wood...which makes me sad. The work is very nice. I too am with hayley on this one...dark + shinny = Pain in the A$$

Hello Bhuvana Prakash
You should use glass style backsplash that is colored to give your kitchen an accent color.

I 2nd what brownsgreener said. That is a busy granite so stay simple on the backsplash. The last photos you attached (I love) and the ideas from the Houzz.uk site are more current than the glass tiles. If you want a more contemporary look, I would use a travertine or something similar in an elongated shape, but keep to one size. You may want to consider a solid color granite or Caesar Stone. A glazed ceramic subway would be pretty with your cabinets. Bottom line, I don't think distressed cabinets and glass tiles play very well together. Most importantly, you have to love it! Keep looking and you will probably know when you see it!

I would do the entire back splash in the same granite slab as your counter tops. It's a clean rich look. The tiles you selected are busy. I think that the mosaic stone, glass and metal mix back splash tiles are a trend that is on the way out.

Hello aliya6982
You should use a french style coffee table and side tables with a patterned styled rug that is similar to the color of the pillows (which seems teal).

We were actually thinking of this coffee table. We are expecting, so we are looking for child friendly things (ie. no sharp corners)

I posted a comment but it seems to have disappeared. Forgive duplicate if that happens. Go for narrow buffet lamps in white, or just one as abbyjean said. The white would complement your earthenware collection which looks nice on your wall. I like the wainscot too. Maybe you can take those new curtains back and get white or sheers. It would make a big difference in the light factor. The pictures above the buffet don't really work there. I don't think that wall need anything. I don't suggest painting your dining set. It's nice and looks new. A lighter brighter rug would be good but hey we all have a budget to follow. Nice room in any case.

Hello Whitney Wiedel
I would like to say that if you want to brighten up your space you can just use different center pieces. Like a light purple vase or whatever is more convenient for you.

Hello eugeniestreet
You should paint your door a bright green like the color of leaves in the summer or spring. It is unique and will give your house that pop of color.

Hello cherlyn54
Your idea on the counter tops is nice and will pull the room together but you should think about a matte finished granite. That will also make your kitchen look complete.

I can't wait to post some photos when complete! That means I will finally have a sink and a beautiful counter to put my coffee pot on in place of the plywood I have now:) I can thank everyone on here for helping point me in a direction I think I am going to be very happy with.

The stove and the fireplace are indeed a little odd. Otherwise, I think it's fun and funky. I actually like the patchwork tiles and could certainly live with them for a year. Think of it as an adventure and ( did anyone already mention it?) lose the curtains! Re-post in a year, we'll all be waiting!

Hi---oh boy, let's see. Ditch the curtains and the chalkboard (colorful art instead). Paint the yellow trim---different stove.
I'd spray paint the fireplace and the backsplash a metallic silver. Hang a funky light and live with it for a year. Have Fun!

As with any architectural element that you don't like but won't be going away, there's no point in trying to minimize it, it'll always be there leering at you.
So the best wtg is defy back, show it who's the boss.
In my last apartment i had the about same structure but clad in a horrific stained knotty pine, so it went very dark charcoal and i hung a lovely small patchwork kilim rug on it, which shut it up for good.

So, i was going to suggest a big print or glassed poster, maybe something like that Klee, to hang on it but then again, your rug may not agree.
I think that groveraxle has found the right direction and anyhow i think thats about the best thing to do with such a massive TV as well. I don't think any kind of trim on it would help at all.
It's the kind of feature you either love or hate but personally i really like it.

I like the style but not the dual tone. Dual tones just aren't for me. Very attractive kitchen. Nice work. The colours go very well together. I like it...other than the two toned cabinets. But that's just me.

You can never go wrong with a mirror. It's classy and easy to accessorize around if you planned on changing your color scheme or room theme. There are so many options when it comes to mirrors.

Looking at the newest pictures, maybe you should put the bed where the tv is and the tv where your bed is? The wall space on the tv has more room for the bed. Also, instead of putting the traditional table lamps, how about you put 2 small chandeliers/pendants?

TV drops into the foot of the bed
Foot of bed TV cabinet
I'm familiar with the cabinet style just not at the foot of the bed but it is a good idea?
