Nice article! Fall colors are especially great in dining rooms-Red-Gold-Plum-these intense colors make for some drama, and reds stimulate both the appetite and conversations!

Great article Jennifer! We love the ideas you've shared for incorporating rich fall colors. In this kitchen, Panageries has implemented many of the design ideas you discuss. We stained the niches, cabinetry and trim a rich, warm maple. For an interesting wall treatment, we've covered the remainder of the walls in Walker Zanger glass tile in an array of creams, coppers and ambers. The concrete counter top is stained a deep copper that coordinates with the hammered farm sink and flooring. For more great design ideas, visit our website at www.panageries.com

The world is full of colour and I love to draw on the experience of travel to see how it is used in different countries and and use these environments of city, country, deserts, mountains, sand and sea, which of course we have in Australia too. Of course I also love to look at decors in all varieties of buildings, commercial and domestic to help spread my imagination to add a little wow factor to my home and this make it so much easier to also see this through Houzz. Love both the US and new Oz version.
Am renovating at present and using the beautiful trees I see through all my windows as the main feature, these and other garden shades, present a complete colour palette.

Scottybeez, yes, dust is an issue. I've had a couple of open shelves for a while and recommend you use them for practical things you use frequently - plates, glasses etc. This way there is a high turnover and things get washed often. Plus, you aren't opening and closing the doors all the time which saves time. However, the decorative things, or finicky things get greasy and dusty in the kitchen, so I've moved those things from the open shelves. Wiping down the shelf is just an extra weekly chore, but it only takes a couple of seconds.
