Christopher R. Arelt

We view the practice of architecture as a service and an art and architecture itself as that which both accommodates and inspires. The design process involves collaboration and interpretation, and each design evolves in its own way in response to site, context, program and client. With the important recognition that environment has a profound effect on life, projects are tailored through landscape, building, and interior to fully realize the potential of each situation. Our work is characterized not only by appearance but consistent quality across a range of conditions. We listen carefully to our clients and work with passion to meet and exceed their goals.

Personnel

Christopher Arelt, AIA, LEED AP, principal and owner, received his Master's in Architecture from Yale University in 1993, Master's in Business Administration from Duke University in 1987 and Bachelor's Degree, Magna Cum Laude, also from Duke, in 1985.

An expanded design team provides specialized attention for a wide range of related disciplines: audiovisual, illumination, geotechnical, structural, and mechanical.

We have longstanding relationships with custom builders, master craftsmen and skilled tradespeople, experts who see the value of good design and are passionate in what they do.

Christopher R. Arelt The doors are Loewen, with the center two hinged directly to the (fixed) outer two so that the doors and panes line uup exactly when open. There is a mechanical screen mounted above the opening so it functions more like a large window, with circulation through the flanking swinging doors at the far left and right. One could have screen doors in the center but the open effect would be compromised.

sprattliz is that where you got this wood? if so, what wood is that? i went to ctriverlumber and found their pricing rather high and much that was offered was coming from North Carolina where I was expected to pay hundreds of $$$ in freight. CT seems to have a lot of its own wood so i didnt understand the NC aspect. second suggestion? thanks very much!

Christopher R. Arelt The center island has a thick concrete countertop, the perimeter counters are thin (3/4") absolute black granite for a nice contrast in both dimension and appearance.

Christopher R. Arelt Note how we used white oak for the kick, to match the flooring.

Christopher R. Arelt Hint: Ebony-stained window interiors better allow the gaze to pass through to the outdoors than lighter colors.
