I DO NOT DIY!! My job is so demanding that I simply do not have the time! It's too bad, because I know how to do a lot of stuff as I grew up helping my dad with DIY projects around my parents' house (the only thing daddy didn't tackle was electrical-he hired someone to do that). That's why I bought a move in ready home!! I want to come home and relax, not work! A few rooms needed painting, but I hired professional painters to do the job! It was completed right after I closed, and a week before the movers arrived from MI with my stuff and I have been a happy camper!!

Brutally honest article. I'm a DIY beginner. I started with small manageable projects using skills that I have already acquired. Even though I don't have a job or any children, it takes a lot of willpower and discipline to complete a project. I am not very prolific as a DIYer because I spend hours searching for inspirations, brainstorming for possible DIYs and shopping around for materials. I put a lot of thought behind every project because I don't want to end up buying stuffs but unable to complete the project or spend more money on the DIY when a ready-made one is cheaper. My husband has no interest in helping me with my DIYs as he is already very busy with his work, so I am very selective in my DIY projects. Anyway, I think there is no reason to jump off the DIY bandwagon if you have a strong passion for DIY. As you do more DIYs, you will learn from experience how to be more skillful and efficient and may be faster in completing the next project. To avoid ending up with unused materials or abandoned projects, be realistic with what you can do and come up with something more manageable.
