To Silvermix81: It's often not the designer, but rather the homeowner, I tell clients all the time, you don't need to add more, remember, "sometimes less is more", but they LIKE lots of things, even though I prefer a minimalist clean look. It's their home, we try to guide them, but we also have to respect their wishes.

the only one of those that I've visited is an ikea and we don't even have one of those where I live atm. the closest ikea is about 6 hours from me. I did use to live by one though and I did buy some of their stuff once. some of their stuff was good and some really bad. I was surprised by the difference in cost. some really good deals and some not so good deals. I'm actually sitting in an office chair right now that I got from there and I think it was about 10 dollars 5 years ago. I was surprised by that one and it has held up well other than it squeaks and a bolt fell out yesterday. speaking of I should probably look into that before I end up on the floor one day lol.

I did do a quick search all on the web and at my local furniture stores. I am a very smart shopper and I do look for the best deal depending on what I need in an item. my table in the above pic is all solid wood, no veneer, and will probably last me the rest of my life if I can take well enough care of it. though it may need painted, or sanded and restained within that time. however it did not cost me 2000-5000. I got the table, a leaf to make it larger (not put in on the pic and it self stores) and 4 solid chairs to match all for only 699! all brand new! I waited til I sold my other table, shopped around and waited for a sale. i got a much better deal than i had planed on though, so that was a bonus. the prices at ikea for like furniture only with veneer or particle board etc were the same if not more $.

the thing that bothers me about veneer is you are pretty much screwed if something dings the side etc very good. cracks, chips, whole edges missing, I've seen it all at discount warehouses. I do miss the ikea for some of their cute type of stuff. decorating the kid's rooms would be wonderful bc I'm just going to change it out in a few years anyways. I guess it really just depends on what you need out of your furniture. I'm tired of moving so I'm planning to die here. so solid heavy furniture is fine for us for most rooms. but if I liked to change things up a lot and often or move then cheaper furniture would be great.

you can fix them too but it just seems like a lot more work. here is a site I saw. looks pretty cool, though I wouldn't want to do it.
