    olldbobbi I agree with carolins. The contrast with the dark blinds and light panels is great. And the dark blinds will be helpful at night when street/moon light tries to peek its way in.

    Sarah Bernardy Design Start with painting the mantel to match the white of the window trim. Ideally the mantel should be as wide as the brick. This would give you a more modern look. Change the blue walls to a more neutral color, look at Benjamin Moore's historical colors, Wheeling Neutral, Shaker Beige, something to compliment the brick color.

    Ed Hardwood floor. I'm smack in the middle of a remodel. The hardwood floor is being acclimated as we speak :) I faced the same decision months ago -- tile or wood for the kitchen, and decided on hardwood because it feels warmer and softer on the touch; tile is colder and harder (used in the bathrooms.) Also, the hardwood flows seamlessly into the dining area and living area; a very nice and expanded feeling. (Same as Sarah's comment.)

    Design Mode Wood. Aged maple with a low-sheen finish. It will last for ages, and that's a good thing because it is always in style.
