Another interesting point - if the sides of your planters angle outwards at the top, the bamboo will be encouraged to grow upward instead of turning downward (which leads to escape attempts).

@frank & grossman landscape contractors, inc. do you think that angle outwards is necessary is we plan on making a long planter box? we would like it to be 10 feet long, at least 18 inches wide and at least 18 inches deep. i dont want the planter to be too high.

That's what I thought. The only company I know of making this system in Bison. Great product for various applications. Hard to believe that each pedestal is rated for over 700 pounds.

There are several brands. Often the material manufacturer will have a preference for which one might be used as a support for their product.

To seal or not to seal...always up for discussion. Especially on such deeply colored woods like Ipe. We usually recommend a penetrating sealer that can be hand rubbed in, but maintenance like power washing and re-applying sealant is more critical.

I am now using Sansin DEC for a sealer on IPE` as it penetrates well and also enhances the natural colors of the wood and last much better than I've seen out of the oil based sealers. It is also much easier to clean up from as well.

These are small, well-mannered trees. If one was worried about roots, trees can be planted with a root barrier between them and the structure. Another trick with trees is to make sure to deep water them to prevent surface rooting when possible.

It is certainly well liked by many Houzz community members. One of our favorites.

That is a red leaf Japanese Maple. It could be one of many cultivars.
