chicken73 which company is the flooring from??
Dresser Homes @chicken73: The particular flooring subcontractor I used for this job is no longer in business. This photo is from 5-6 years ago. If you are looking for a hardwood flooring company in your area, it should be fairly easy to find someone to do 5" oak floors.

Dresser Homes That's a tough question to answer. It really depends on several factors like geographic region, level of finish, site conditions of the existing house, and so forth. In Atlanta, a high end room like this would probably run between $150 - $200 per square foot. The room is about 576 sf, so you would be in the range of $86k - $115k. Of course you could do it much less expensively with different finishes. This room has custom mahogany doors, hand-scraped walnut floors, 10' ceilings, heaving moldings, and so on. Hope this helps.

Dresser Homes @isabel98: Yes, there are under counter lights as well. The counter which is only partially shown is a large opening to the family room, framed in a wood trim arch.

Dresser Homes No, it was not limewashed. I'm not familiar with that process. This look was achieved by smearing the mortar on the brick while the bricks were laid. Good luck!

Dresser Homes The door shown here is the front door and is stained Mahogany, but the interior doors are painted the trim color. So are the kitchen cabinets which are shown in other pictures of this project. The color is Gettysburg Gray by the way.

Dresser Homes The mirror is a "one of a kind" antique. It's actually an old French gate converted into a mirror. I got it in Atlanta at South of Market. They have lots of interesting pieces like this.....you might want to check them out. www.southofmarket.biz

Dresser Homes I would do hardwood floors in the kitchen as they are easier on the feet, easier to keep clean, and less expensive than tile. But if you really want to do tile, I would look to some of the ceramic products that look very close to marble or stone. Maybe something that looks like white carerra marble.
    Good luck!

Dresser Homes The ceilings shown here are 10' so these pendants would not work in your kitchen unless the rods could be shortened by 2'. Even then, the rods might be too short visually and they might look out of scale.
I feel like your island might be more suited to one single fixture, centered on the island, or perhaps two smaller pendants.
You might want to take a few options out on approval from the lighting store and hold them up over the island and see how they look. Typically stores will let you do that as long as you don't install the fixture.
So if your ceilings are 8' and the island is at 3' above the floor, that leaves 5' for your light fixture. Assuming you want something to hang 30" - 36" above the island, that means your fixture needs to be 24" - 30" tall. The more I think about it, the more I think a single chandelier type fixture might be more appropriate than 2 pendants.

Dresser Homes I think if you center the fixture on the island and hang is such that the bottom is +/- 36" above the island, you will be fine. That leaves you 24" of drop for the fixture.
A round fixture would probably be okay, but I think you are on the right track thinking rectangular.

jasellyn Our kitchen is very similar in the way the blind corner is a small cabinet next to the stove--I'm wondering if you can tell me what size cabinet you used for the base blind corner? How did you deal with the dead space? Are there pullouts in the cabinet?
