tamaranara Love well chosen and placed boulders. My pet peeve is seeing the patina scraped off boulders by machinery and tools. I understand the Japanese are very good at moving large boulders and not disturbing the the living materials on the surface of the rock.

uberv We brought in 27 tons of moss rock and a truck load of river rock to redo the slope in our front yard. By next spring the native plants should have filled in well. It works well with all the rock in the back around the swimming pool. The pool was inspired by all the native limestone outcropping and ledge at the back of the house.

Janet Greenwood Love the ideas - beautiful colors!! The orange wall by the pool is very cool, but a reminder that you can't get carried away with a design that will be a nightmare! The wall is fine - it's the plant draped over the top. Anyone who has ever cleaned a pool on a daily basis will understand the leaves, petals etc that fall constantly - and then there are the bees...

Lynne Gerwing I spent a few years collecting coloured chairs for around my fire pit - they were inexpensive and fun to find ! and a couple of years ago I had this beautiful "runway" built from my house to my garage installed (one I duplicated from something I saw in a gardening magazine) - everyone LOVES my back yard! even the neighbours are envious!

marjie1059 bkeith, you have given me hope in maybe being able to do something myself with stone on our very uneven ground, as well as what to do with the large foundation stones at the edge of our hill left over from a kitchen foundation redo (necessitated when the old one proved woefully inadequate). I'd love to see a post from your on your projects and how you did them. Great pictures that illustrate well what you have been able to do.

aldrda Very nice! I was a big fan of rubber mulch also, (see previous comment), but when i started using it on the plants in the front of my house, which get full sun 8 hrs. a day, the plants that had been there for 12 years and looked great, starting dying. I knew they were getting plenty of water, and fertilizer, so I ask a landscaper friend to look at them. He took one look at them and immediately said "You can't use rubber mulch in Florida in the summer time, because the mulch gets extremely hot, and will kill the plants!" When I picked up a handful of the mulch, I was dumbfounded how hot it was! It's alot more expensive than regular mulch, and it all came out the same day! The plants never survived, and I ended up replacing them! Maybe O.K. for shaded areas, that don't get much sun, but I'm sure Texas gets as hot as Florida. And the funny thing is, I asked a garden employee in Lowe's, and one in Home Depot, to recommend the best mulch, and they both said they don't use any mulch, because they all have problems!! go figure.......

Shahmiri Fine Art That's good to know. I used rubber mulch on the side of my house where grass would grow in patches. It too receives full sun and the grass always looked bad. With red mulch it looks clean and offers a nice contrast.
