Joni Koenig Interiors look at design within reach and go for something mid century or modern...I like the idea of some metal and glass perhaps. But not traditional.

Joni Koenig Interiors If you are already working with a designer, I'm not sure why you are looking for further direction. Maybe she/he is not the right fit for you? The house/room has great bones. Some wonderful suggestions already presented. Perhaps the best is to rethink your current designer and find someone you will want to listen to and work with. For such a large house you will surely need direction throughout.

pldfurniture All lovely, but the loose scrolling and color of Modern Gate speaks to me. Elegant and calming.

Joni Koenig Interiors A really light wood, even lighter than in photo supplied by sharon above (great direction sharon) would be my suggestion. This would enhance the "beach" feel. The lighter you go, the more current the home will feel. Definitely use this same flooring throughout. I would consider a large scale glass tile rectangular in the "soft" sea color range and lose the shutters and teal shade. Too much accent color looks contrived and elementary. Keep most/all neutral and let the backsplash "stand" out. If you change the cabinets, consider a new refrigerator the same depth so that it doesn't stick out proud of the adjacent cabinetry. That flush look is wonderful. For sure, push the island forward and enlarge.

Joni Koenig Interiors As a retired chef, I suspect your husband would appreciate white. I would stay away from pattern and achieve some contrast with cabinet color with the uppers or lowers. I like the photo that feeny just provided. Would work well in a small space.

Ed Hi Carolyn, I also considered that option -- to have the Corian countertops, and just a bit above the countertops, and mix with a tile backsplash to under the top cabinets -- but I decided against it. I decided on Corian all the way from the countertops, smooth transition to the bottom of the top cabinets, and to the hood of the ventilation for the stove. For a very clean, sleek look, and for cleaning. :)

onthefence I've seen a kitchen here done by a pro that has white quartz counter and the same as backsplash. It was really striking! The photo below isn't the same kitchen but gives an idea of the look.

I think it would be a bit easier to keep clean and streak free than glass or stainless. I will say that personally I like the look in white but think it might be too dark if done in a color or pattern.

Joni Koenig Interiors Everything here looks rather neutral. You can do almost any color. What colors inspire you?

quickshop A warm deep terra cotta/rust color would look great and will warm up the space! Just try a few colors, you can always paint over them again if you don't like them, that's the beauty of paint!

Joni Spear Interior Design Please go to SW and pull the color chips I suggested. It will give you a good base to work with. If you prefer HD paint they certainly can match it.
The Khaki I suggested has grey undertones but will work well with your rug.

seemaibrahim Thanks Joni I will surely go and check at SW and thanks for the color suggestion . Now my next step is to check the colors at SW first if doesn't find my choice of color then might be HD
