The San Francisco Bay Area, focused on the city of San Francisco, the SF Peninsula and the East Bay.

Business Description
Architect Lorin Hill and associates emphasize pragmatic and creative design solutions to variety of design opportunities throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Every project presents its own unique challenges, and we find something compelling in every project, no matter what size.

Excellent design only reaches its full potential if it can be effectively translated into a completed construction project that meets scheduling and budget goals. We promote a pro-active approach aimed at achieving and maintaining good "chemistry" among all players in the process: the client, the design team, and the contractor.

Our particular strengths include responsiveness, thoroughness, communication and flexibility. We provide a continuum of services that take a project from the broad overview (a master plan) to the specifics of construction detailing and specifications, with active involvement in the construction process.

We are committed to environmentally sustainable practices in our work and often incorporate the Build-it-Green GreenPoints Rating System into our projects. First and foremost, the renovation of existing structures minimizes the waste of resources. We promote the use of locally-sourced, renewable and recycled building materials as well as building systems and site design that favor water and energy conservation. Improved indoor air quality and the reduction of contaminants contribute to healthier living environments.

Our primary focus is residential projects, with an emphasis on high-quality design and creative, pragmatic solutions. Much of our work involves the comprehensive renovation and expansion of existing homes. We draw upon the inherent strengths of a building to produce improved living spaces, healthier environments, and added real estate value. Other project types include commercial tenant improvements and mixed-use developments.

It's 1x3 battens on cedar plywood, meant to replicate the original board and batten siding. The battens are spaced at 16" on center to cover the vertical plywood joints.

The interior dimensions are 5 ft. wide by 6 ft. deep. The shelves add another foot of depth.

I'm sorry, but we can't help with that question. We have our hands full with earthquakes and fires out here in CA, but we're not up to speed on hurricane codes. You could check with the mfr. (Loewen, in this case) or similar mfrs. such as La Cantina, NanaWall, etc.

Hi Pbonaduce, our SL73 system is completely impact rated and miami-dade approved. Take a look at additional information here in regards to features, performance testing, options etc. : http://www.nanawall.com/products/sl73

Here's a great letter that we received from a customer who watched hurricane sandy come in through their NanaWall system. "Fourteen foot waves crashed against our house for hours while the winds howled...Despite major damage sustained by our house, the NanaWall door in our living room held firm through the entire ordeal! The glass was not broken, the frame was not damaged, and the door remained closed and secure. We were amazed! " Continue reading: http://www.nanawall.com/blog/nanawall-sl73-super-storm-sandy

Rachel, the owner already had the flue pipe, so we don't know where it was originally sourced. The existing vintage stove was integrated into the new kitchen design.

Thanks for your inquiry. Unfortunately I don't have that info handy. In general we like Benjamin Moore's White Dove as a very versatile white, but that's more for interiors.

Yes, it's painted wood: cedar plywood with vertical battens to emulate the original board and battens of the ranch house.

Review by P Hyde:

We were terrified to finally remodel. Now we're halfway through the job, and I'm wondering how it could possibly be going so well? The answer: Lorin Hill, Arch...
