rambo0861 That is excellent! Thank you for the quick response very helpful.

For the beams - From my research steel beams appear to be priced weight. Is there any correlation to this weight by the thickness of the flanges and web dimensions i.e. maybe 3/4" or 1/2"? I have seen that some beams that are 8x8/8x12 etc. are nice and thick and chuncky and others seem although still heavy steel are thin in comparison. I am not sure if I am communicating the question well my apologies if this sounds confusing. The weight of the beams in this home give that very appearance which I am after.

I am also curious to now (if this is possible) is using steel in a residential application is more costly as apposed to traditional methods? We live in Florida and we are designing an indoor/outdoor style home (ground up) and I am using ALL WALLS http://www.allwallsystem.com/ as my main wall system but, I am currently designing the home with the steel integrated into the project for the great room and the tv room but I am not certain as to whether or not it will be out of our budget range.

Thank you again for the quick response and I look forward to hearing from.

    Respectfully,
    Kris Larson

McClellan Architects Hi - the wide flange beams have flange thickness of 1/2". Beams are specified by weight which has an effect on flange thickness. Using structural steel as an intergrated material is usually expensive. The type of welding and finishing of the steel adds to cost as well as the intergration of the other materials and systems.

McClellan Architects Hi, These pavers are set on a pedestal system which allows the water to drain through the joints. You can also set these on sand and not use grout joints.

Sneller Custom Homes and Remodeling, LLC This beautiful lakeside home previously had a plain covered back patio. A summer kitchen was designed with distinct areas in mind--a place for cooking and grilling, and then a separate space for entertaining and serving drinks. A gas fire pit with bench seating was added as an additional gathering spot to roast marshmallows in the summer, or warm up in the winter. This will be a space that can be used all year around in Texas!

McClellan Architects Thank you! The roofing on the outdoor patio is standing seam metal. I'm not sure what beams you are referring too? We used both wood and steel in this home. The steel was painted a dark bronze color using steel paint (for lack of a better technical term).

Ann Smitt John Whipple - Doesn't it depend on the room's size and lighting? All caramel walls may be very pleasing to the eye and the heart. ;-)
Nina Nezhenets Interestingly enough that they didn't mention pink bedroom walls at all and also my personal experience differs from what they say in that study. Perhaps there are more factors to sound sleep than just the color of the bedroom.

I lived for three years in a place with bedroom walls painted pale pink and I've been sleeping quite soundly there, now I've been residing in another place for almost a year and it has yellow walls, it's hard to fall asleep and hard to wake up, even if I slept my 8 hours I still feel like it's not nearly enough.

Also, I happened to have deep blue rooms in two of my places - left by their owners - somehow people tend to make the WHOLE room blue, walls, floor, even blue sofa and curtains to make completely sure they killed it... The first room I owned, and it was facing north, and one could feel almost physically chilled upon entering it, so I had to repaint to to a pale warm peach. The second blue room is in a rented apartment, so I keep one of the two visible walls covered with either a white sheet or a red bed cover, or it's very unnerving to stay in there. Can't imagine how anyone could sleep in a blue bedroom, though, maybe I'm familiar with too dark a colours...

McClellan Architects The patio pavers are custom sized concrete pavers set on a pedestal system. The stone is a blue stone from China.
McClellan Architects In Seattle they do, but if you live in a very hot climate they would be just as hot as regular concrete. The pavers system allows for a flat patio with concealed drains below the pavers.

VC Studio Inc. It looks like they were confused and were trying to add your photo to their category "stairs/staircase", or "escalera" in Spanish.
Nice escalera by the way :-)
I like the wall as well. I did a wall finish about ten years ago with a similar concept but using a plaster and a custom fabricated notch trowel. It was based on a finish at a chapel on the Seattle University campus. It's worth stopping in to see if you're ever in that area.

McClellan Architects Thank you for the lovely compliment. This "front" of the home faces south and the back yard is north. This home is located on an urban lot and the living room layout was designed to maximize the connection between the home and the backyard. We always look at sun patterns and try to bring in as much natural light as possible while also considering the views and privacy of a space.
