    Native Trails Hi Julia,

Sometimes the black shadow marks may appear when something chemical or acid reacts to the Brushed Nickel basin, and that can be easily remedied by applying a chrome polish, which may be purchased at any automotive store or online, to the basin. Chrome Polish #7 is certainly an effective brand.

Otherwise, we suggest the same simple maintenance for all our copper sinks: for basic cleaning simply use a mild soap and warm water. Keep your copper product clean and dry by wiping it down after each use with a soft cloth. Harsh abrasives or copper cleaners should never be used on our products as they may affect the finish. For extra protection, a product such as Flitz Faucet Wax+ may be applied.

For more information specific to finish types, please visit our website: http://www.nativetrails.net/cm/downloads/care_maintenance.html

    Hope that helps. Happy Houzzing!

    Native Trails Hi amyneville,

Copper is incredibly durable! Check out these previous houzz discussions, which may answer some of your questions.

If you choose copper, you'll also find it is amazingly easy to maintain. Hammered copper is particularly simple since it doesn't show fingerprints as stainless steel or shiny copper does. For basic cleaning simply use a mild soap and warm water. Keep your copper product clean and dry by wiping it down after each use with a soft cloth. Harsh abrasives or copper cleaners should never be used on our products as they may affect the finish. For extra protection, a product such as Flitz Faucet Wax+ may be applied.

Uncoated copper has the added benefit of natural antibacterial properties - a big bonus in the kitchen.

    Native Trails Hi shoppinfool,

We can't speak for other brands, but we have very good response from our customers who purchase brushed nickel. Native Trails' brushed nickel process begins with high quality recycled copper which is then heavily plated in molten nickel and meticulously hand brushed to ensure a sturdy yet uniquely beautiful basin, which require simple care: clean with an all-natural clean like a Meyers brand (no product with hard chemicals or abrasives) wash with water, and dry with a soft towel. To add extra shine, a chrome polish may be applied.

    Hope that helps! Happy houzzing.

Diamond Spas We tell our clients that when they purchase any of our copper apron sinks or our copper tubs that it is a "living metal", meaning that they will continually change over time. We like to compare it to a penny. Sometimes you will see them with some green and dark brown hues. We also suggest a copper wax on copper products if you want to maintain a nice luster. As the title of the editorial suggests, the fabulous thing about copper is that it is an antimicrobial material. Pretty ideal for food prep and bathing! Most important to look for when buying copper products is to make sure how thick the metal is. If the product is made out of thin copper metal they will be more prone to leaks. www.diamondspas.com

alwaysdesigning I have always had nice cast iron and porcelain sinks and have never had any chipping or scratching issues; Bar Keepers friend is the best cleaner. I don't like stainless. I am considering copper in our new house. Good luck

olldbobbi I would much prefer a porcelain sink to a stainless sink. The copper looks interesting, tho:

Ann I recently put in a new granite composite (silgranite) sink in their color called biscotti. It's amazing and shows no marks of any type. It never even looks like it needs cleaning but I've used barkeepers friend on it a few times so I know it's been cleaned. I never dry it. I really love it and there are many great configurations to choose from. I really considered copper, but the price for a good quality one was quite high and my husband didn't like the look (I love the look).

Interiors International, Inc. If you want the patina you can't use any abrasive products. Like mcbriec said mild soap and water. If you feel you need to sanitize it better than just soap use cheap vodka. It makes a great household cleaner.

Try a Copper Sink for a Warm Glow in the Kitchen

Bring polish and patina to your kitchen with a sink done in endlessly interesting copper Full Story »

    · · Comment · 3 weeks ago
mcbriec My current house has nothing but hammered copper sinks that all have a darkened old world patina. They are the easiest thing in the world unless you want that bright, un-patinaed finish which looks very unnatural to me and would indeed be difficult to maintain. If you're not comfortable with patina, they are not a practical choice. If you like a rustic, old world look, they are unbeatable.
moresparkly We did a hammered copper sink in our last kitchen-it was beautiful and easy to clean-we are in the process of rennovating the kitchen in our new home and I'd love to do copper again in a white and navy kitchen. We ordered ours direct from Mexico and it was not extravagently expensive-on par with stainless sinks.
