Our company manufactures a stone veneer very similar to the stone in the picture and we call the stone Narrow Profile. If you need assistance with sourcing stone for a project, please contact us. Every batch of stone is hand colored and we can create a color and look just for your project. Below are a couple of projects with the Narrow Profile stone.

Talk about a focal point... YeeHaw ! Follow guidance from Victoria and Teabreak and enjoy!

QUESTION: What is the device on the floor of the firebox ? (Kinda looks like a hotplate upon which you were preparing a souffle but forgot.....? )

We hate to see fireplaces removed, so our vote would be to keep it. :) But what could update it and bring it to a more modern, versatile fireplace space would be to cover the exisiting fireplace (we're partial to using stone) and build it all the way up to the ceiling. That style of fireplace really gives a great, lasting focal point to the room and can also help the room to appear bigger. You could build out the fireplace slightly and then add stone veneer right on top of that and continue up. It would be beautiful. Congrats on the new home!

Not sure if the glass would look right on the floor, and as Darzy mentioned, the style of the glass might get old. You'd be better off going with a more versatile product like stone or slate. But really like the idea of having a different design on the front of the steps- that's a great idea.

Travertine is very "in" right now and yet there are people out there who have never heard of it. I would be interested to see how long the mortar will hold to the stair case. Without some sort of heavy adhesion/attachment strategy, the tile might come off sooner rather than later.

I have cork glue flooring planks that look like travertine...but they are standard floating floor planks that glue straight to a clean riser/tread. Same look but without the worry of tiles falling off any time something goes thumping down or into the stairs.

Pale green/sage/beige would be really beautiful with the yellow. Will you be adding stucco just over the rocks or going above the mantel as well?

Just over the rocks. There is a dark slate base at the bottom which matches my entry way floor and my kitchen floor. I need wall space for art work. I also thought I might try to change the shape of the fire box with the stucco work. Possibly slightly arched and less rectangular.

Very unusual, clean and simple - I love the angle next to the clean line cabinets. Depending on your stove/range back, you might consider using a backsplash material that echoes that same hood form/pattern right down to the horizontal surface of your stove ? Wide bands of light tile, stone, etc. with dark lines between - to really emphasize and continue that interesting form/pattern. Could also be an interesting inspiration for an entire wall backsplash composition. Patterns of dark/light. Is the fixture part of the hood ? It 'glares' a bit - perhaps moving the light source so it doesn't sit directly on the surface ? or appears to anyway.

What a cool hood- very different. If you remove the cabinets, you lose the storage, but you could really accent that wall and the unique hood. What about a stone backspash/wall covering? It's hard to see what color paint you're using (if it's up yet). But with the smooth, shiny finish of the cabinets, a more matte/rough finish of stone might compliment the design. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Though it might sound like a lot of work you could tear out the dated brick and replace it with stone it would make the room beautiful

You actually don't have to tear out the brick. You can update the fireplace by laying stone veneer right over the brick. It's a quick, easy way to update at a lower cost.

Sorry for the delay! The ceiling height was probably about 9 ft. The stone wall about 8 ft. above the ledge.
