I love doors especially since I travelled to Europe. I could not get over how beautiful, solid and intricate some of them were, especially the older ones. I even purchased a wall calendar that features. beautiful photos of... doors. :-)

When to Use Engineered Wood Floors

See why an engineered wood floor could be your best choice (and no one will know but you) Full Story

Sheri, we manufacture a engineered hardwood floor made with an FSC, exterior grade birch ply backer. To compare qualities of engineered flooring some key things to look for are type of backer (ply is better than composite), number of layers (more is better), thickness of both veneer/ wear layer and backer (more is better). Here is some information on prefinished floors, too:

Our product can be glued down to concrete with an all in one mastic and vapor barrier. The problem with installing over anything other than directly to concrete whether to interrupting layer is paint or tile is that your bond is only as good as the bond of the tile to the concrete. If there are weak joints there than the wood won't be adhered well either. Also tile floors tend to be uneven without a nice clean flat surface to spread mastic over. To make a generalization we would not recommend in most cases putting our higher quality glued down floors over tile without remove the tile and grinding the concrete. A cheaper alternative that might be more appropriate is going to be a floating floor.

The Engineered Hardwood is a floating floor and is not glued down to the concrete floor but is allows for lateral movement that is supposed to compensate for changes in the humidity levels of the room, at least that is the theory behind it.

Sorry John, I understand now floating engineered floor, my mistake, I missed where you said click. Here in Texas we use almost exclusively engineered flooring due to our concrete slabs and 95% of those are still T&G and are glued down so I was assuming yours was glued down too! So you have a floated click engineered wood floor on a concrete slab. Then the culprit might be your underlayment. What is under the floor? With a concrete slab, you need a good moisture barrier down before you float the engineered floor over it. I know you said your floor is not too "tight fitting" but you do need to make sure that you have sufficient expansion gaps around the exterior edges of the floor and that it can float with expansion under your baseboards or quarter round and at all areas that it meets other existing flooring. What underlayment did you use?
