SOLARIS John, a great article showing how important windows are in design. I am a bit disappointed you fail to mention window film in your suggestions for controlling the sun.

Need is not necessarily true, we have hundreds of clients that have controlled the amount of light and heat coming in through windows while still retaining the view with window film. The latest generation of window film products are extremely energy efficient and available in shades from completely clear to sunglasses dark and every shade in between.

Here are two recent projects where the clients did not want anything covering the view but fading of the flooring and uncomfortable glare and heat in the space were a problem before film was applied.

Probably a dumb question, but how is it best to get light into the centre area of a double story house?
Have a dining room in the centre with light only coming in from one end (Glass doors leading onto a covered in patio area) so there isn't a lot of light at all.
