This fixture has a vintage give and more traditional detailing. It does not read modern. It would pair well with your kitchen

Love the rug, sofa needs more contrast, lighter or darker. Charcoal grey would be beautiful.

Also recommend staying with a gray sofa with that rug. Lighter or darker as Sara suggested, just in the same charcoal undertones. Avoid a blue gray or beige gray, and you can add any color as pillows.

I don't think those colours go well together? The sample looks like a warm undertone where the rug looks like a cool undertone?

Needlepoint accessories give a cozy, homemade feel, look to Jonathan Adler for some cheeky, modern graphics to update the look of needlepoint.

Don't pull the threads too tight, that is what distorts the needlepoint. They often advise using the line form, but I prefer the basket weave. I find rotating between doing the background and the pattern worked better for me. I used to be bored by the background, but now I find it soothing.

It's a great way to express oneself with needlepoint. It shows personality. It can be used as accent accessories in many design style tastes.

I am not a Pro but they say what comes around goes around - or is it the other way around? What I'm hoping to see make a comeback are wrinkle-free sheets, the 60% cotton, 40% polyester kind. I had some that were so soft, in great prints, that came out of the dryer and onto the bed looking perfect. We didn't do much with thread count then (the mid to late 70s?) but I sure loved those sheets. Given the advance in technology, why isn't it possible to make even 100% cotton wrinkle-free today? I love nice bedding but I do not want to iron it, in fact because of age & arthritis I can no longer iron at all. So my pretty sheets go on the bed wrinkled & creased, much to my consternation. I do have some wrinkle resistant sheets & they are ok but as far as I know they come mainly in white. Any hopes for a revival of new & improved wrinkle-free bedding in the near future?

Honestly, I think it's just semantics...an attempt to transition one phrase into the other. After reading the houzz article describing 'work zones', it could just as easily describe my 'work triangle' kitchen. I Dishwasher & trash next to sink, check. Landing areas next to major appliances: check. Large island to keep guests a bay: check.....

I live in a small town filled with older homes. I know few people who upgrade their kitchens to look like the glam-fabulous photos here on houzz. Most people I know don't ever get around to kitchen remodeling and just make do with the old.

Another thing: I read that kitchens have come a long way because all the architects used to be all men and they seldom spent time in a kitchen, therefore kitchens weren't 'user friendly'. Once women came on to the scene, their input helped kitchens evolve into rooms that function well and are family gathering places.

I don't have time to read all the other comments, so maybe someone has already said this, but I think it's a good idea to have the sink and the cooktop/range on the same run of cabinets, so that they are not separated by a walkway. This makes prep and cleanup easier and safer, since no one can walk between the chef and the sink while the chef is trying to drain pasta.

I like the 4 P's and the 4 C's. Every business needs regular analysis and evaluation. Keeping it simple with tools like these will catch a miss step before it becomes a problem. Thanks for your insights.

Thanks for the link to the USP chart. I belong to a Mastermind group and they have been trying to get me to understand it and implement it for my business for a couple of years and I just throw up my hands because I have never figured out how to apply it. This chart makes so much sense and asks great questions that I feel I can actually answer to arrive at my USP!

aspenideas Yes, we used the Danube, I was going between Danube and St. Moritz, the St. Moritz was not sculptured and it had more white in it that I wanted. I wanted something with a little touch of weathered gray and the Danube had that. Our daughter is building a home and when they saw our floors they loved them so much she changed what she was putting in their new home. Our home is more of a Cape Cod look and theirs is a Craftsman style. It really adapts well to either look. here are some pictures, we are still in remodel mode. There is more yellow in the pictures than I think in the actual wood. These floors are ten times more beautiful than the pictures. We have had lots of oohs and ahhs. Hope this helps.

Hardwood is the way to go. It is warm and durable and you can soften the look easily with a fabulous area rug. Good luck!

Hardwood is my recommendation. We have a two story home and the entire house has wood floor. You can add a carpet like the photos posted above or have rugs just on the side of the bed so that you feel something soft under your feet. Carpet collects dust and dirt. I guess you can tell I'm not a fan of wall to wall carpeting:)
