We used several to elevate the small barbecue to waist height - much easier for an enjoyable BBQ. We like it so much we're working on designing a permanent installation to include a wind shield bit behind the grill, storage areas, and a worktop to hold condiments and utensils.

On the comment "I wish that we houzzers could make some attempt to encourage people to hold on to what they have, and go with what their house's architecture dictates rather than encouraging people to create something that is not even close to true." While I agree that you have to be careful with how you mix styles, I don't necessarily believe your home's architecture, should "dictate" what you do. Decorating is very personal, and people should create what works for them.

We don't all have the luxury of living in the architecture that we would like, and have to make do - especially when you move around. I live in a Colonial style home, because that's what's most common and salable in my area, but I would never in a million years furnish it with colonial style furniture.

Loved the article and photos. Decorating is all a matter of preference. There are no rules when it comes to dressing your own space. If it's yours and you love it, no one's opinion matters but yours.

Totally WRONG result. We live in and love our Craftsman/Arts&Crafts style home. Don't like RANCH at ALL, and don't care for suburbia. Our house is in the old part of our city and is Cottage (which this is considered) is more our style. Covered Porch, central house length hall and big rooms most with brick fireplaces but we have had to add a bath and closets...no loss since even with added wall to wall closets the rooms are still large.
