Shelterbelt Architecture

Shelterbelt Architecture is an Edmonton architecture studio dedicated to creating regionally responsive, sustainable architecture through a collaborative design process. We believe that design contributes in immeasurable ways to the vibrancy and liveability of cities. We are interested in exploring the integration and relationship between built form and landscape, interior and exterior.
Our firm name was chosen as representative of our philosophy. A shelterbelt is an example of sustainable principles in that it regenerates and changes seasonally and that it provides habitat for multiple species of flora and fauna. It exemplifies a group of individuals (trees) working as a unit (the shelterbelt) to sustain and benefit its neighbours. And while a shelterbelt is a rural construct, we believe its poetic memory has relevance to our sustainable urban practice.
