Smet Staircases

Working with Sander @ Smet was an amazing experience. From the outset, he worked hard to understand what stair design we were trying to achieve. He completely worked with our vision, whilst guiding us with his amazing knowledge and insight and we couldn’t be more thrilled with our beautiful stairs, that have become a key feature in our new home.

The finished result merits 5 stars but it was a long process to get there. After long discussions about what I wanted I was excited when the stairs finally arrived but there were two major drawbacks.., the top flight didn’t fit and the colour (which had been agreed with a sample of the floor covering) was off by about 4 shades. You can imagine my disappointment! Sander who was my contact with SMET was unfailingly polite and helpful and he resolved all my issues by remaking the top flight and getting in a French polishing firm to get the colour right but we lost about 8 weeks or so due to these issues so my moving in date had to move significantly. Having said that I am delighted with the end result. The quality is excellent and they look fantastic

Smet were great to work with - very professional, showing excellent attention to detail and commitment to finishing the staircase to the highest standard. We would highly recommend!

SMET came to our rescue when in mid-project we realised we had a corrupt contractor and needed to change our approach to several aspects of the new extension including the staircase. Peter and Sander were very helpful and supportive online and by phone and shortly thereafter Sander made the long trip up to Argyll to confirm measurements etc. In due course, the team arrived to install the staircase and, by and large, this went well. There were, and remain, some aspects that disappoint but we and importantly our family and friends are pleased with the result and we remain appreciative of SMET’s customer service. Something went wrong in the factory such that one of the stair treads was resized smallet by the factory without telling anyone and, as a result, the bullnose is less impactful than Peter had designed and we had approved. And it took some time before the issues with the factory applied staining were addressed by a local French Polisher to get a bit closer to what we all expected. SMET agreed to a discount to resolve the matter. Perhaps not surprising given the size of the project and the location but disappointing none the less no one from SMET has made a post installation visit. But if we were in the same place again we would certainly think of using SMET.
