Most average users don't know what that is and have never touched it because they're scared to ruin their computer (blame cryptic error messages), but if you press that button it copies an image of whatever is on the screen. Open up something like Microsoft Word (or any program that can handle an image) and paste (Ctrl + V). Viola! You now have a picture of whatever it is that was on your screen.
