This guy is fan-freaking-tastic. How wonderful it is that Shigeru Ban is an artist, a scientist, and a humanitarian rolled into one! And how wonderful it is that such a person is honored and recognized for his contributions to the world.

I liked the 'before' bathroom best. I think I would have kept all of the old tile and fixtures. Just replace the cabinet under and around the bottom of the sink. Move the electrical outlet and light switch by the mirror, so more focus is on the mirror. Removed the tacky shower door and replaced it with either a solid glass door or just added a nice curtain. As for the toilet, that's the only real structural change I would have considered. I'm not sure what the entire room looked like, as we could only see bits and pieces, but if it were possible to have a recessed area for the toilet, that would have been nice....other than removing the lovely shower. I can appreciate wanting things to flow better (no pun intended), but I believe that if you purchase an older home with so much charm, it's your responsibility to preserve the charm when renovating. If you want new and modern, buy a new and modern home.
