I might value a tool to assist in this, but find that there are so many variables that my investment in a learning curve for the tool might be better spent working on the project itself. I don't want to be discouraging--I would be interested in your keeping Houzz informed as to your progress.

Bear in mind, too, how data will be maintained over time and the liabilities that attend data aggregated into information that results in project decisions. The retention period for some records will be the life of the building, so consideration of the technical implications is important. (As background, I should say that I teach in this area at the graduate level at the University of British Columbia and as a former director of a government records service in Asia, have theory and practice and consulting experience for an international construction firm) under my belt. Application of the tool as described will likely have varying implications in different jurisdictions.

I'm all for tools that support the kind of communication necessary to ensure the optimum end result, but am also very conscious that tools inevitably shape outcomes...they guide interaction and this can lead to shaping a project prematurely. Of course, that can happen among people regardless of tools, which is why I see my own role as the client rep, an interface among all parties (architect-contractor-owners-suppliers) as important.

Thanks for the great feedback. It is a bit premature to let the genie out of the bottle on how this will work, I promise that the professional design world will say its about time that this is available. I have 44 years experience as a professional immersed in the same world as you and have spent the past 3 years studying how to make this happen. Your cautionary message is much appreciated.

I love the idea of mixing it up. Would you also consider a few other things: painting the base of the island in black and the rest of the kitchen white. And then letting go of the little curtain. I then see the walls going into a grey/taupe tone like Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter HC-172 or Para Paints Memory Overload P5222-34D. Good luck - you've got a great layout there to work with.

Lots of kitchens have both the island cabinet and counter color different from the perimeter. I like it best when it's one or the other, but not both. So, if you do the two different counters (I like that plan), I'd keep all the cabinets (including the island) as they are.

I just did absolute black and love it... everything gets dirty and everything needs to clean.. but am happy :) i got tired of busy granite and quartz is not as durable..

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling better about it now. I just expected it to be a little smaller than it was when it arrived. The wall color is BM Abingdon Putty.

Anything goes with Dark Brown. I really can't think of a colour that wouldn't. You have not put anything into ideabooks so I'm not sure what you would really want. But here is one example from a client of mine that did a custom dark brown sofa. She loves it!

I think you should start with a great area rug to anchor the space. Don't skimp on the size. There are a lot online at Home Depot. I start by ordering the smallest size to check the colors and quality before committing to a major rug.

Yes-marbles can stain easily and require frequent sealing. It is a beautiful look, but you must be vigilant with your counters!

I have a client that used all marble and loves it. She is embracing the imperfections!

I agree, good question. But it looks like it may be big enough to put a nice wooden bench in the middle of the room.

Our glide outs function like drawers, only better due to our design and installation process.

I like this as an option also because it keeps the cabinet fronts simpler as opposed to all drawers. And in the corner this works best of course so you don't lose the hidden space.

The blue on the ceiling makes it feel like a higher ceiling and with mouldings not worthy of being showcased, I like that it is all blue. :)

Get rid of all but the two over the island and replace with pot lights. Then take one of the rugs out - two is too many. Then... it will be an awesome kitchen!!

I don't remember exactly, but I think it was about 4' x 12'. We had a thick supporting wall running along the door side so we had to work within that space the best we could to keep costs down.
