Oh I wish I was in Dallas! Your room is so lovely, but I feel the furniture and art is too contemporary for it. I would do a slipcovered linen sofa with graceful lines to echo the architecture, a rug that glows and two comfy chairs. If this room is right off the entry and what you see right away, then it should be welcoming and a bit more formal then the more intimate rooms of the home. Good luck keep us posted, can't wait to see it!

clarify, chair would not go in front of fireplace but across the room from fp. Since you come through the front door and spy the room from an angle, this is not blocking the focus on the fireplace. Your small bench ottoman would work fine in front of it though as I said earlier. I'm sure you will find a great designer in the Dallas area to pull everything together.

I thought I'd share with you 2 of my favourite gray dining room designs for inspiration. What do you think of the lighting used?

As usual Manon was spot on, with the table being a rectangle as well it seems the room is also that shape, I would either use a chandelier that mimics the lines or use two pendants. As far as painting a grey, there is a lot of grey in the wood, I'd choose a grey with some blue to give the room added depth, and work with your blue rug if your keeping it. We have recently purchased our dream lot overlooking Okanagan Lake. We have spent 4 days clearing/burning piled slash from beetle killed pine trees. Hard work for a 65/71 year old couple but we love every moment we are there. Red tailed hawks are overhead every day, song sparrows are all around us, even the occasional deer. It is so quiet there, I can hear my ears ringing and the view is to die for. Talk about happiness......... this is it. At the end of each day, we hate to leave. We hope to break ground soon for our house.......... then we will see REAL happiness!! Our dream home full of the smell of Chocolate Banana Muffins where we can entertain friends and enjoy our kids and grandkids.

Hi, love your choices, the room is bright and happy and I'm sure being in it is even more so. The sofa looks great with all your colourful cushions, but that doesn't leave much room to sit. I would be inclined to find the right mix of patterns and colours in the fabric you choose and then leave off the cushions. There's so many choices out there. I've reupholstered leather chairs and sofas before with fabric as the cushion covers and they look great as long as they are chosen carefully. Order a yard and place it on the sofa and see how you feel about it if your hesitant. Good luck and keep us posted!

My heart leapt when I saw that garden wall with the white door. I read The Secret Garden about a thousand times as a child- that photo took me right back!

While trends show up in pictures on the internet and in shelter magazines, I think the real trend is people are searching for their own style and making home personal. People aren't following trends so much as searching for their own personal style and just going with it. I think that is why our trends change so fast. Trends are merely introductions to new ideas, not the direction things are going.
