Theresa at Tamley Architectural Design is amazing to work with as an architect. She designed a primary bathroom last year and we hired her again this year to design an art studio and office for us -- both were unfinished spaces that were transformed into beautiful rooms. The best part is how easy she is to work with. She took our ideas in stride, incorporated them when they made sense, and made other recommendations that we never thought of, like a sky light in the primary bathroom to bring light into the shower and overall room. it was a game changer in the design. We used two different contractors across these two jobs, and both truly enjoyed working with her because of her quick response to find innovative solutions to their questions. I will definitely call on her again in the future.

My husband and I worked with Theresa on the remodel of our very outdated kitchen and bathrooms and a major structural revamp of our foundation/basement. The things I enjoyed the most about the project were Theresa's thoughtful creative recommendations and openness to our ideas, her knowledge of what was possible, and her ability to graciously navigate the many times when my husband and I were not yet quite on the same page. Of course the very most enjoyable thing is the final product which was a successful collaboration between us and the highly skilled contractors and engineers that Theresa was able to introduce us to. We love our updated spaces and I would certainly work with Theresa on any future projects. In addition, I highly recommend her for her attention to detail and skill at setting us up for permitting success on the first submittal.

Theresa created our dream home plans and phased them for us to fit our current budget. We are absolutely thrilled with the outcome. I can’t speak highly enough about Theresa. Theresa Tamley exceeded all our expectations! She designed a beautiful cottage, consistent with the appearance of our house, converting our free-standing garage and storeroom. She listened carefully to our ideas, and then worked with us to help us select appliances, flooring, lighting, knobs/door handles and the best heating/cooling system and water heater for the unit. She was able to add details such as vaulted ceilings, covered entry, horizontal siding with vertical siding trim. She was in close communication with us when it mattered and answered all our questions immediately. Above all, she was knowledgeable about legal requirements, engineering needs, aesthetics. She was professional yet warm and positive. Moreover she and our contractor (whom she recommended) worked very well together. Bottom line, we couldn’t be happier by our choice of Tamley Architectural Design.

We hired Tamley Architectural Design because we really liked her design style and what we had seen in other projects she had done. We did a remodel of our kitchen, family room and new fire place in the living room. Theresa was a pleasure to work with. She listened to our ideas, came up with suggestions and explained why she designed things a certain way. She handled so much - the bidding, permits, structural and material recommendations. We have received so many wonderful comments on the remodel. It was just such a great experience. We have recommended her many time over.

We were very fortunate to be recommended to Theresa years ago with our first house where we remodeled our kitchen. She helped us design and did great oversight with the project. More recently we converted our attic into a play/family room and a guest room -- through it all she guided us while helping us keep to the authenticity of our home. She was responsive, thorough, and helped us when we wavered on a decision, reminding us to keep with what we want versus being deterred by cost. Theresa is a joy to work with. She is a very creative problem solver and an excellent guide for materials and usability of space. She really listens as well and puts what you want foremost in her thinking but is able to steer you towards better ideas when needed. We hired Tamley Architectural Design for a substantial remodel/addition to our home, and we cannot recommend Theresa highly enough. We bought a lovely, older house with fantastic original interior and exterior architectural features, but with inadequate space for our family. Theresa was wonderfully creative and came up with a design that was both elegant and functional. She created the living space we needed, with a pragmatic and functional interior floor plan, combined with a graceful exterior that blended in naturally with the original house and the surrounding neighborhood. She paid careful attention to every detail, inside and out, and we're delighted with the result. Theresa was also invaluable in her role as project coordinator from start to finish. We were living abroad throughout the design and permitting process, as well as the first four months of construction. She communicated and collaborated wonderfully with us and played a key role in liaising with our general contractor throughout the project. What we had expected to be a stressful, difficult task to manage remotely was actually straightforward and even fun thanks to Theresa. Theresa managed the design review process very effectively, working with the planning office to anticipate potential concerns and even speaking with our neighbors to answer their questions about the design. She was an invaluable source of excellent referrals for our general contractor, structural engineer, and other people we worked with during the project. Once construction began, Theresa was on-site regularly checking work and communicating with our general contractor and his sub-contractors, many of whom made a point to tell us what a fantastic architect we had and how much they enjoyed working with her. She has a wonderful collaborative and respectful approach, but also a good eye for quality and detail, and she did a great job in representing and advocating for us when needed. The finished work exceeded our expectations in every way. Theresa gave thought to every detail and blended the addition seamlessly into the original, character-filled house. Our guests always marvel at her work, and especially comment on the fact that they cannot tell where the ‘old’ house ends and the ‘new’ house begins. Theresa is wonderful, and we recommend her without any hesitation.

We had the pleasure of working with Theresa Tamley over the past year. We did a fairly extensive remodel of a house from the 1930s in San Anselmo that had had very little previous updating. This included both interior and exterior work, and involved replacing part of the foundation. This was completely new territory for us, as we had never done any renovations and had just recently become homeowners. Thus, we were somewhat apprehensive about starting such a big project - would we be happy with our choice of architect, contractor, etc? would the house end up how we imagined? would we stay on budget? Theresa was able to allay these fears, and we couldn't be happier with the final result. Theresa made the whole process very easy for us. She is incredibly personable and was great at explaining every step along the way.. She clearly has an encyclopedic knowledge of the regulations and codes involved in construction in Marin. There were so many amazing little details she incorporated into the design that improved the flow and functionality of our home. She was incredibly responsive to both phone calls and email. She also helped with many interior design decisions and her judgment was dead on with that too. My wife and I can unreservedly recommend Tamley Architectural Design and, if we do any future projects, hope we can work with her again.
