What is your style? Do you like distressed or shiny, dark or light? We just installed Hand scraped Eucalyptus hardwood flooring in kitchen, dinning, sitting room and hall and I love them! They are distressed but beautiful. Extremely hard and very durable.

We have just uploaded such a "normal " room. Our project Mr & Mrs Emily, it was a small ensuite but we made the most of it. Our other project Mr & Mrs Gray also had a small Bathroom, but with the right lighting etc it gave it the feel of a larger room. Check them out on our profile!

This is a very selfish request as I have a particular project in mind. To achieve it I'd love to see photos of different lighting effects ie not the light fixture itself but how the type of lighting affects the ambience of the room.
I really like the photo below. It's a fairly small dining room and appears to have no natural light so must have been a real challenge but it has been made to look spectacular partly by the lighting effects.

This weekend I will try to convert a hessian 'bag for life' by lining it with half a rubble / old sand bag for water proofing and sturdiness then fill it with compost and plant a few herbs and hang it on the wall in a well lit area. I'll keep you all posted as to the success.

Hi Jess - be careful with the quality of travertine , the best comes from Italy but the tile shops tend to sell the cheaper material which can be a problem , especially with under floor heating and it can also have a lot of filler which is not good. Good luck with your project.

Thanks very much for the info - love that Houzz finally has more of a presence here in the UK. We are looking for an option for our Greenwich (London) kitchen and underfloor heating compatibility is a must. It's to go with a shaker style painted kitchen (colour TBC but probably white and charcoal or a light grey) - we have original floor boards in the rest of the house but the floor in the kitchen is a mix of concrete and boards so looking for a limestone or similar solution.

I am a big believer in working with what you have, if possible. But, I just don't think this is working. As Leona suggested, asking yourself the function of the space is a good question.

I had previously suggested the larger buffet in the hall, but WW wants to keep that in the living/kitchen are.

One thing that is bothering me about the current arrangement is that the mirror is too small.

This might be an opportunity to use your prints. Note in photos below the chest is large compared to the chairs, but the feature is the art that is a large presence that visually connects the other pieces.

Love that you actually see toys in several pictures! The reality with kids is that as nice as your house may be they will definitely play into your design.

Could someone please tell me: 1) when did stairs and ladders become "dangerous" for children? And 2) when did living in a 2-story house become a "problem" for older folks?

Honestly, children have enjoyed climbing since the beginning of time! Even if they fall every now and then, isn't that part of learning and growing?

And elderly people who no longer have the ability to use stairs can (in the case of my grandparents) simply transfer their living quarters to the main level of the family house where there is a kitchen and bath. Problem solved.

USE IT OR LOSE IT! Stair climbing should be encouraged as early and for as long as possible.
