Tim Andersen Architect

We design classic American houses, from Colonial to Mid-Century Modern, that are historically convincing and well crafted, yet fresh and adapted for life today. Having renovated and restored houses for over 30 years, we are well versed in regional building traditions. We are able to realize what clients desire in a manner appropriate for style and period of the house.

The challenge for many of us is how to make our dream house affordable. Can we live a larger life in a smaller home? We help clients reassess priorities and assumptions to discover what is really essential. In budgeting new construction and additions, quality and character of a project can increase if square footage is reduced. Many find it is more fun to live in a smaller shipshape house, and especially if it is in a resource-full neighborhood! For more on this, see "Cottage Character" in opinion section of our website.

Services Provided:
We provide full architectural services, from initial brainstorming through construction. Services include a variety of consultation and master plan packages to get things started. They provide homeowners a quick way to assess what changes will make the most sense for their house, and how best to accomplish what they want within their resources. See "About us" on our website for details.

foxhunter Love the wainscotting, and battens. What is the spacing between the battens?
Tim Andersen Architect Thanks. Battens were placed 8" on center to emulate wainscoting with vertical 1 x 8 boards. Since this work was intended to be painted we used smooth sheets of MDF instead of wood. Wainscoting in Craftsman and period revival houses was most typically 1 x 8, 1 x 10 or 1 x 12. Whenever you see battens at 16" on center to align with the studs you know it's fake. It's also poorly proportioned.

Tim Andersen Architect Owners bought these antique light fixtures from a dealer. Similar reproductions are available from Rejuvenation. A great source for hand blown art glass shades is Lundberg Studios: http://www.lundbergstudios.com/lamp-shades/

Tim Andersen Architect This is a stucco with integral color in finish coat, and not painted. Color inside is same as exterior. Board and batt walls have a warm grey semi-transparent stain; I don't have record of color.
