Sigrid, what I meant when I wrote that was a place where you feel extra nestled-in and cozy - a windowseat, a nook, a space within a space that envelops you like a cocoon or a nest.

I also don't think of it as working around a set of rules but rather working with a system that provides good guidance not only for easy flow but also for decor. Reiko is an interior designer who specializes in feng shui, so the feng shui aspect is well integrated into a beautiful design that also prioritizes the clients and their personal style.

This is hilarious. I think the trout stream is my favorite. And the his-n-her toilets reminds me of a Victoria Jackson/Kevin Nealon fake commercial skit for "The Love Toilet" on SNL. They sat side by side facing in opposite directions.

Becky, you are correct about the toilet. The wall plate for the flush activator can be removed to access for repair. Also, in this case, the other side of the wall is the basement stairs so it could be opened up if necessary. But the Toto people tell me that anything you'd need to access you can through that wall plate which is 8.5" wide x 5.75" high.

A slight correction: the "before" kitchen was somewhat closed to the Puget Sound view prior to the renovation, since there was a wall with an opening between the kitchen and the dining room. After the renovation, the view of Puget Sound from the kitchen really opened up since the wall was removed.

Finne, your explanations help make sense of the room. I still am not sure how the pots and pans underneath, but yet in plain view, add to the simplicity of the room--I would find that detracting for me. But I totally get the idea of opening up the space, particularly when it increases efficiency, flow, and personal contact, and/or when there is a lovely view to maximize such as what they have here.
Your simple comment about the panel installed because of the neighbor's bright yellow house says it all to those who, like me, were puzzled by the reason for that panel being in that specific place. Totally makes sense, and the style of it goes well with the other style components.

My comment to Mr. Branson is that there is no right or wrong way to the particular design of a space. Every designer has a different vision and just because you don't particularly care for what Heather has done is certain areas doesn't mean it is WRONG. Look at all the positive comments she received. You, Mr. Branson, obviously would have done it differently. Eva would have done it differently. And yes, I would have done it differently (I have a more traditional/transitional style of design). But that's how it should be! How absolutely boring it would be if all designers did exactly the same thing. The comment you made about how developed your eye is sounds extremely arrogant to me - seems you are claiming to be the expert of all things in design and we, as designers, should all look to you for your profound wisdom and guidance on our designs. I know Heather Garrett personally and she is an excellent designer and was showcased recently as one of the "up and coming" designers to watch by Traditional Home magazine. Not a shabby distinction! Your comments were very harsh - you used the words "malnutrition", "crammed", "bad choice", "no character", "bad imitation", "pedestrian," "drab". Constructive criticism is one thing and not a bad thing - bashing the work of another designer while claiming yourself to be the authority on design is another. As long as her clients are happy and she has transformed their space into a space they love is what's important. And I think she did a beautiful job.

Hey all, how about we go back to talking about the room, or if you don't like it, move on to another one you might like better. This thread is going off the rails and it's enough already.

Some times this gets confusing. The outside of the home may be one style but for whatever reason the client does not want to decorate say in a Mediterranean style inside. She/he may want it decorated in an eclectic style. This may be hard to describe on our blog.
