The design, whether for a new home, renovation or addition, is inspired by the surrounding environment, the use of light, orientation and raw materials. However the influence of the people who will inhabit it shows in the finish product.

I've said this before, but it's worth repeating: you should be careful what you choose, too. We wanted lights under the trees in our minuscule back garden, thinking it would give them a magical look. And lights on the single step - for safety reasons - and trusted the electrician to choose them for us. He did and the overall effect is (disappointingly) one of a disco-club.

I'm not really complaining, I can always change the bulbs to other colours or to a not so strong white, but I'm still annoyed that instead of a sweet, whispered fairytale I ended up with a Disney show.

Thanks for the tip...your garden does look magical from the photo. Did you try it out with different coloured bulbs?
