Whitten Architects

Business Description
Since 1986, Whitten Architects has been designing thoughtfully considered homes in New England. With a focus exclusively on residential design, we are experts in a variety of project types—from camps to cottages, new homes to historic renovations. Our work has won a number of awards over the years and has been extensively published in a variety of residential home design books and magazines.

Our like-minded team of three architects and two designers collectively offer decades of hands-on residential design and construction experience, as well as a common ethos: we believe a home should reflect its occupants, and its design should develop from an appreciation for and an understanding of its site. Using an efficient combination of hand-drawing and our office’s state-of-the-art software, we help our clients envision their home even before construction begins.

"Messiness can sneak up on you...." Until now, I've never ascribed an anthropomorphic identity to messiness, but I will from now on! Perhaps that will motivate me to start the cleaning process! Great article, as usual.

I guess it's living in Seattle, but there's not a single room in my home where I'd ever want to block out light. Even in the child's room. I would love the light to wake me up....but we don't really have any but for 3 months out of the year.

There appears to be a slight difference between the wall color and the cabinets...I love that look! What color are the walls?

Sorry, we're not sure where the table came from. We were not involved in the furniture specification.

Thank you for your question. This home was designed by our architecture firm back in 2001 for a client. We are not a cabin rental service.

Thank you for your question. These framed glass panels, which swap out for insect screens in the summer, were custom built by the contractor.

Whitten Architechs; thanks for answering so many questions about the porch and it's windows. The info was more than enough that I didn't need to ask anything but simply wanted to express my gratitude.

The dishwasher is within the cabinet directly to the right of the sink. If you look at the baseboard you can see it a little better. The dishwasher has a face panel on it, that blends it in with the rest of the cabinetry.

Hello, and thank you for your question. No stain color was used in the finish of the cabinets. The hickory was the highest grade, plus I'm sure the cabinet maker was selective in the wood he used.
