Whitten Architects

Business Description
Since 1986, Whitten Architects has been designing thoughtfully considered homes in New England. With a focus exclusively on residential design, we are experts in a variety of project types—from camps to cottages, new homes to historic renovations. Our work has won a number of awards over the years and has been extensively published in a variety of residential home design books and magazines.

Our like-minded team of three architects and two designers collectively offer decades of hands-on residential design and construction experience, as well as a common ethos: we believe a home should reflect its occupants, and its design should develop from an appreciation for and an understanding of its site. Using an efficient combination of hand-drawing and our office’s state-of-the-art software, we help our clients envision their home even before construction begins.

Thank you for your question. This project was completed over 15 years ago, so unfortunately we can't recall, nor do we have record of the manufacturer of these shingles. That being said, if we were looking to specify eastern white cedar shingles today we'd look to one of the following: http://www.maibec.com/us/products/individual-shingles-eastern-white-cedar-shingles, http://www.dowseasternwhiteshingles.com, http://www.longfellowscedarshingles.com

Thank you for your question. The backsplash is made up of 3 x 6 subway tiles, and a 1" pinstripe of gray glass tiles.

Hello, this is custom built shelving that we designed and the builder's cabinet shop built. Each adjustable shelf does have a nominally 1" thick solid wood edge.

Thank you for your question. The island countertop is "Viscount Granite" and the cooktop countertop is "Jet Mist or Virginia Mist Granite".

The "Viscount" granite is about 1-3/16" thick. It has what is called a "Dupont" edge on it.

Here is another picture, looking down the hall and adjacent the stair, toward the formal dining room and past the "butler's pantry".
