Andrew Zema's Landscaping, Inc.
Landscape Architects & Designers in Dalton
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsNovember 21, 2016
“It was immediately apparent after meeting Andrew that we wanted to work with him for our Japanese Garden installation. His knowledge of the Berkshires and the plants that work well here is unparalleled. His understanding of practical and beautiful garden design is exceptional. His own work, and that of his team is of the highest possible standard. During the installation, we watched Andrew spend 20 minutes find the perfect placement for a large rock - we didn't understand what the fuss was about - now we realize that that rock serves as a seat for us within the garden and provides a spectacular view of the pond and waterfalls. Our garden is an oasis that brings joy whenever we see it. Uniquely, immediately after finishing the garden it looked like it had always been there - which over the past four years has only become more beautiful. I cannot recommend Andrew and his team highly enough. It is a decision that you will not live to regret.”

“Hired Perennial Landscaping for some design and landscape work. They were very professional, courteous and did excellent work for a reasonable cost. I actually had them do more work then originally intended to do being work looked so good and I feel added value to my home and property. They did plantings and hardscape with design that was computer driven with pictures of area before hand and I was able to see what it would look like before work was ok'd ! Cant be happier and it looks great ! Very easy to work with and I am waiting for warmer weather to have them back to do some stonework and more landscaping.”
Philippe Soule Landscape Design
Landscape Architects & Designers in Dalton
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsMarch 19, 2014
“Philippe Soule has worked with me for the past four years to design, install, expand and maintain the gardens around my home in Columbia County. While most of the jobs pictured on his web site are city or town gardens, my property is a country house of relatively recent construction. Some work had been done at the property by a different contractor, but it was not properly scaled to the house and was not satisfactory. Philippe listened extremely well to my own ideas, and came up with a new planting plan that was responsive to my parameters while introducing wonderful new elements that I never would have come up with. He was able to make use of almost all of the plant material that was already on-site (though it was moved around and significantly augmented). He has a great sense of proportion and composition, and he knows his plants. The job involved laying out extensive new beds, and Philippe and his team laid them out well and brought in significant soil to make sure that everything would be properly planted. The initial planting looked very good the first year, but really came into its own in year two. Plants were thoughtfully selected to ensure year-round interest. Since Philippe's initial planting, he has added to the gardens with significant new plantings (some new beds near the house, and more trees around the property) each year. Philippe and his team have done all of the garden maintenance, and they keep the place looking great. His team are conscientious and professional. I could not be happier with their work.”

“I am an architect in Berkshire County and I often find that my clients need a Landscape Architect to complete the design work for their projects. Rob Akroyd of Greylock Design Associates is always my first choice for Landscape design. He has demonstrated time and time again an ability to listen to his clients and to distill what they tell him into clear design goals and preferences. His Landscapes exhibit a creativity that, when coupled with his expansive knowledge of plant material and landscape elements, never fails to please. His design work is not just beautiful, it successfully fulfills my clients needs and desires while complimenting my architecture. I highly recommend Rob Akroyd to anyone who is seeking Landscape Design services.”

“Hortulus Animae - Mindful Garden Design created a gorgeous front walk way for our home - railings, lighting and blue slate steps. I was not a fan of railings and worried that although they were necessary, they would look big and clunky. I was thrilled with Jean-Marc's unique and beautiful vine railings that are perfect for the setting. We get compliments on them every time we have guests. He was also quick to make sure they were as functional as they are beautiful. We feel very grateful for his vision!”

“I hired JM Designs to design a raised stone patio. I could not be more pleased. The circular design fit the house perfectly and included some ideal recommendations for the accompanying plantings, both on and around the porch. JM worked closely with me selecting the right stone and stone color and located an exceptional contractor who brought it all to life. JM met all or our mutually established deadlines presented just the right amount of options, and was exceptionally easy to work with, deflecting dumb homeowner ideas with considerable grace -- and always for the greater good of the project. I should note, I have also used JM Design for the front yard landscaping and the design and construction of a retaining wall, with similar results.”

“Environmental Design & Landscaping did a great job on our patio project. Tom was on-site everyday. He came up with good design ideas for our space. He and his helpers worked quickly and were very skilled. His company did a fantastic job with clean up when the project was completed. He was also very responsive when we asked him to come back and handle addition work relating to the project. We recommended him to our son at his home and the results were equally great. Highly recommend his company.”

“We have been working yearly with Tomich Landscaping since 2008. Our property is about 13 acres and a complete landscaping plan was needed, which has been continually updated each year. Working with Tomich has been an absolute pleasure. They are the most creative landscapers we have ever worked with. Their people are hardworking, reliable and flexible. Their plans are tasteful and their follow through is excellent. But most of all, Chris Tomich is a fine person and a true professional.”

“The RDG team has worked with Wildside Cottage & Gardens in Conway MA since 2008, beginning when our eight acres of hill, ledge and soggy meadow were wild except for the remnants of an old Christmas tree farm. At that time our pretty 780 sf net-zero cottage was just nearing completion. RDG first assessed the wind, water, soil conditions and sun exposure across the seasons, then carefully sited seven specialized gardens where the crops planted in each would thrive. The gardens emphasize perennial plantings, and include herbs, perennial vegetables, fruit trees, grape vines, nut trees, tubers, legumes and other plants which nourish our needy soil, annual storage crops including rice, plus three seasons of flowering plants to provide food for pollinators. With time, Wildside is becoming a hugely productive ‘edible landscape’ -- without clear- cutting or chemical insecticides and fertilizers. RDG’s approach has also helped us maintain our precious connection with the wildlife living here, and traveling through. RDG has given us expert design advice on infrastructure -- from steps down a steep hillside, to a boardwalk across a wet meadow, to water conservation through terracing hillsides and capturing run-off, to extracting valuable leachate from the composting toilet, to how to make our root cellar optimal for old-fashioned underground winter storage. RDG also designed and built our small unheated greenhouse, which now accommodates two fig trees, winter spinach, various spring starts, and in summer either tomatoes or, alternately, sweet potatoes. Wildside’s goal has been to develop a demonstration and teaching site that will help visiting students and the general public learn how to achieve better food and energy security for the future. The RDG team have been indispensable partners in this project. The RDG team is hugely knowledgeable, patient and good-natured, and their prices are clear and reasonable. We at Wildside can recommend RDG without reservation. wildsidecottageandgardens.org”
