“I loved Steve's ideas for the redesign of our yard - everything from the shape and layout of our new deck, to the plantings around it. His suggestions for the layout and flow of furniture was insightful and spot on. His choices in planting were beautiful and created a great landscape that is beautiful throughout the year. I recommend him with the utmost confidence.”

“My wife and I used Julie Miles/ ModernBackyard to design the complete lanscape plan, including hardscape and plantings for our new house in the Montlake/ Interlaken area of central Seattle in 2010. We both felt she did an exemplary job . Julie showed a deep understanding of the architecture of the building as well as the site and came up with elegant solutions that successfully balanced privacy and openness. The end result beautifully integrated the house with its site and has impressed all who have seen it, including many friends who are architects and designers. Throughout the process she was always responsive and profesional, on time and respectful of our needs and budget. I will add that as a builder that has seen many drawings, the hand drawn perspective sketches and renderings Julie provided for us are the most beautiful I have seen in my 25 years in the business. I can't say enough good things about Julie and our experience working with her. I would highly recommend her for any landscape project, regardless of scope or budget.”

“Renee helped us design both a flower and vegetable garden - she helped us every step of way through the layout and planting last summer to the pruning this winter. It's obvious that she loves her work - her enthusiasm and creativity show through in her designs. I love that she picked unique plants for us that I would never have known about!”
Studio 342 Landscape Architecture

“After researching local landscape designers, we hired Studio 342 to develop a landscape design for our newly constructed home. We were incredibly happy with the results. As ambitious do-it-yourselfers with lots of energy and ideas, we had absolutely no idea of how to bring all those ideas together into a cohesive, contemporary design that would fit our lifestyle and dreams for the perfect outdoor space. After interviewing a few landscape designers, we met with and hired Studio 342 to develop a base plan, master design plan, planting plan and construction details that provided all of the information we needed to implement the project ourselves. The project was ambitious, including: re-grading plan for the front and side yard to allow for installation of grasspave2 to create a hidden driveway and parking area for our 28’ Airstream trailer; raised garden and picnic table area; an outdoor dining area; an outdoor gas fire pit area; an outdoor kitchen design for the existing patio; a full lighting plan; a new path system to tie it all together; integration of concrete and steel elements to meet our design aesthetic; and colorful and low maintenance plants. It’s now a year later and we’ve complete the majority of the project. We love our outdoor space and we could not be any happier with the overall design. Studio 342 did an amazing job of listening and creating a final design that was perfectly aligned with our goals and tastes. They were reliable on their budget and timeline. They produced clear, detailed designs that were easy to follow and implement. And, they provided outstanding support whenever we needed extra help along the way.”

“As architects, we had an excellent first experience with Shapiro Ryan Design, and look forward to collaborating with them on many future projects. The landscape they created for our Sunrise Vista House (also known as Sand Point house) was thoughtful, original, and a great fit for the clients' aesthetic and functional requirements. This is a first rate company in all respects.”

“Great design ideas, functional, completed in a timely and clean matter, professional workers. Wish I would have had written instructions on the seasonal tips for maintenance of the irrigation, however, the owner has returned and explained twice to answer questions. We love our patio, stairs, and redesign of the terracing and pathways. Because of additional projects, ran over budget, enjoying it.”

“My wife and I spent a long stressful 2-3 months looking for a landscape contractor that could help us design and build our backyard. It was a much harder process than we could have ever imagined. We talked to several contractors and there was one problem or another with all of them. Some said they'd come over to talk to us about the job and never showed up. Some wanted ridiculous amounts of money for our relatively modest project. One came over and wouldn't give a written estimate eyeballing things and telling us what it would cost with no measurements or anything. Another guy came over, gave us a written estimate and we agreed to do the job with his company. We were excited to finally have a contractor and be on the way only to, out of the blue, have him text us two weeks out and say he no longer wanted the job and wasn't going to do it. We were once again, back to scrambling trying to find someone to help us. One day we were down at Sunny Farms Nursery and we asked them if they could recommend someone who did good work and might want the job and they recommended Holistic Horticulture and Landscaping, a local business owned by Quincy Byrne. We almost didn’t call him after going on Yelp and finding only one, one star review. Figuring that there are always some hard to satisfy customers that you can never make happy no matter what you do for them, we decided to call Holistic and make our own determination . Boy are we glad we called. We set up an appointment with Quincy to meet and discuss our job. He showed up on time and we spent a long time out back discussing our needs and his vision to implement them. At no time did we feel rushed or like he had someplace better to be. My wife and I were impressed with Quincy’s positive, can-do spirit and his enthusiasm to come up with a plan that would meet our needs. Quincy has the eye of an artist and we really liked what he wanted to do. He exuded both confidence and reliability and my wife and I hired him on the spot. A few days later we received a detailed invoice that was clear, easy to understand and explained everything in detail. There were no surprises or hidden charges. On the day he promised, he and his crew showed up and commenced work. Any number of contractors could have physically done the work that we had done, but what really stood out with Holistic was the great respect they showed for our home and property and their attention to even the smallest detail, little details most contractors would have never even considered. They treated our property like I imagine they would have treated their own and that meant the world to us. They keep things neat and organized and they cleaned things up every day before going home. We were shocked that they did such things like power wash off all the rock, stone and gravel we used to get all the dust and dirt off them, a small detail that most contractors would leave to mother nature or you to do. We’ve dealt with other landscape contractors in the past and none of them paid this close attention to all the little things that come up. Quincy and his job foreman Mike were friendly, personable, easygoing guys who were super easy to work with. A job almost never goes exactly to plan and there are inevitably going to be changes and adjustments that come up as work progresses. This can upset a lot of contractors who just want to get in and quickly get out and be done with things, but not Quincy and Mike. They never once made us feel bad when these changes came up and they immediately and enthusiastically implemented them when we wanted to go in a slightly different direction. In summary, we highly recommend Holistic Horticulture and landscaping for all your landscaping needs. Their prices are fair and very reasonable. They will reliably show up and do what they say they’re going to do. They are responsive to calls. They do excellent work, but maybe just as importantly, they will treat you and your property with great respect. Quincy and Holistic Landscaping are the contractors you always hope you’ll be getting when you hire one, but very rarely do. It was a very pleasant experience from beginning to end and we are so happy we chose them. And for those of you skeptics who might be wondering, no, this isn’t Quincy’s mother , just a happy, satisfied customer (for life). We will be using Holistic for all our landscaping needs in the future. My wife and I not only feel like we ended up with a guy to help us with our future landscaping needs, but a friend as well. You can’t beat that.”
