Alison Powers Color Consultant
Wallpaper Installers in Fairfax Station
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsJuly 17, 2016
“I contacted Alison because I was about to spend several thousand dollars to have my home’s exterior painted, and I didn't want to make a mistake. Alison was very thoughtful about the color selection. She considered my home’s architecture and landscaping, but she also the colors of neighboring homes and at my home in different lights before making a recommendation. I have to say, I'm in love with the colors she picked. I’ve received many compliments and have been asked several times by complete strangers for the paint names. All around, a great experience!”
Proper Paint & Paper

“I have worked with Jim Lackford to complete multiple home renovation and repair jobs and I highly recommend him. First, he’s easy to work with and is a good communicator. He’s trustworthy and more reliable than your best neighbor: When I had water in my basement over a weekend, he came over the very same day to remove the flooring. I don’t know any contractor who would turn on a dime like that to help in an emergency! Jim is extremely knowledgeable and skilled in everything “home.” He did painting and wallpapering for me, he patched holes in my ceiling, he laid tile in my laundry area, hung a mirror, installed a mosaic tile backsplash, and so on. He always did the work with skill and care. He also has access to skilled workers who can support him when the job requires it.”

“CASART Coverings helped me color match and did a color consultation in my dining room as well as helped me consider wall coverings for our beach condo. Ashley Spencer, the president, was who I worked with. She was professional, direct, prompt, accurate in her assessment and didn't try to "over-sell." The dining room now has a warm feel thanks to CASART Coverings.”

“Amy is capable of doing anything with a paint brush. I found her years ago online as I was looking for someone who could create residential murals or do textured paints for a new home purchase. I have hired her now for at least 4 separate projects, each one more complex than the last, and she has always come through. I constantly am asked for her info but people that visit my home. I will 100% be using her many times again going forward.”

Lauryn Preller / Rep for Benjamin Moore
Wallpaper Installers in Fairfax Station
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsOctober 9, 2013
“Hired Lauryn to help select paint colors for several rooms in my house. She was on time and prepared with boxes of color samples. She discussed how the light in the room might change and affect the color and that I should "live" with the samples on the wall for a few days. These were large samples so it was easy to see on the wall. Lauryn's architectural background comes in handy when recommending use of two colors on the wall. We selected paint colors for the front door, a 2 tone rec room and office. Am very happy with her suggestions and will be moving forward with several projects. Highly recommend her.”

Eco-Strip

“The speedheater and scrapers I purchased get a lot of use. The first time we tried it out we couldn't believe it was true- It really got the paint off! I don't think it's the most efficient way to remove paint from wide flat surfaces or pieces that I can remove and have dipped in a lye tank, but It is great for removing paint from surfaces with profiles or small details (think: window sashes). The scrapers they sell are great, but also necessary. On really old paint, we brush on some linseed oil and leave it for a while before using the heater on it. This helps a lot. There are a few downfalls: (1) The bulbs break easily- in fairness, my speedheater gets a lot of use, and does get dropped occasionally, and so the bulbs do break. (2) It's not "super magic", it does still take a lot of patience to remove the paint, and having to hold the machine in a vertical position (not working on sawhorses) can become tiresome. (3) I know the company says it's safe, but the smell that comes with speedheating the paint doesn't seem like something I want to be breathing, so I wear a respirator. But don't let these little things distract you. Removing paint is never easy or fun, so while this tool is not flawless, it is a necessary tool in the arsenal of anyone trying to remove old paint.”
