Rhode Island Whole House Renovation: Custom Home by the Sea. (Gatsby, anyone?)

This large summer home is set on a beautiful peninsula surrounded by water on three sides, and it was built using the foundation and steel frame of the existing house.

In collaboration with another local builder, we completely rebuilt this home in less than twelve months. The new home includes a full-size elevator and a glass floor in the widow's walk that spills light down through the second floor to the living room below. With the exception of the kitchen, nearly the entire main floor of the house is one open space surrounded by a 180-degree water view. Ahh, bliss! (Note: The home was designed by Schmitt Sampson Walker Architects.)

Who wouldn't want to entertain in this lovely, panoramic setting? With gorgeous ocean views coming at you from three sides, you might not even notice what's on your plate (but when you spy the kitchen in the next shot, we think you'll realize the cook means business!). This kitchen is meant for serious entertaining, folks. (Yes, we think Gatsby himself would approve.) It features 2 sinks, 2 refrigerators, 2 dishwashers (one residential and one commercial), and 2 ovens. The countertops are granite, and the kitchen cabinets were finished on site with a conversion varnish and glaze. The photo is taken through a pass-through to the dining room....More

Yes, we think some serious living could happen in this living room. And dozing. And snuggling. And reading. And... OK, now for some details: The ceilings between the large beams in the dining room and living room are constructed of square oak lattice over fabric stretched over a wood frame. The floors are oak. We think it might be a law that you can't have an exterior shot of a home on the ocean unless it includes a sunset. We're law-abiding folks, so here you go.
